Rubbish problem still not combated by Council

Deniliquin’s rubbish problem has not diminished in recent weeks as rubbish continues to litter the streets of the town.

Areas of concern continue to be Henry Street, Wood Street and Hardinge Street with no signs of rubbish pickup been sighted in recent weeks.

Napier Street has also been identified as another street with concerning levels of rubbish past the corner of Wood and Napier Street.

The area outside of Deniliquin TAFE also has rubbish problems with several cans and bottles spotted in the waters of Brown Park, these bottles are out of reach of passerbys and will require Council crews to pick retrieve them from the water.

Deniliquin’s rubbish continues

The levels of rubbish around Deniliquin appears to have increased in recent weeks particularly in areas around Coles, the Wood street side of the former Purtill’s depot and Henry Street.

The lake outside Deniliquin TAFE appears to be a piece of tin sheeting sticking out of the mud, there are also bottles ranging from Coke bottles to Beer bottles also in the lake which should be easily picked up by clean up crews operating around town.

Deniliquin News Service has reported on this problem for some time yet there is no sign of improvement with DNS suspecting that this problem is some time away from being rectified as it appears the tidying of the town is an afterthought compared to the promotion and event making.

Classic cars make Deniliquin motor along

Deniliquin is known to all as the town with the Ute Muster but it should be noted that the townspeople have a large amount of classic cars.

From Corvette Stingray’s to the Plymouth Plaza there are lots of great cars to see if you look closely at the cars that pass you by in the streets or the ones in that sit in people’s driveways.

Imagine if a classic car convention happened in town? The amount of cars available at short notice would make any car enthusiast sit up and take notice, This writer is not a big fan of Deniliquin’s obsession for events for they seemingly override the need for services and entertainment for all ages but this is one event that could bring benefits long into the future.

It is true there are many small car events going on in town during the year but Deniliquin would have to have an event that is reasonably large and is run by locals preferably ones that know the subject matter and know what they are doing, If the event is successful money would be held onto for the next event and anything left over should be used to help the community out making it an event that gives long after the last year motors away from the event.

Have the birds of Deniliquin been poisoned?

Today is the beginning of two days of the Deni Show but just a few hundred metres away a serious environmental event is taking place as birds are falling from the sky dying from what is believed to be poison.

Dozens of dying birds have been reported to been picked up by the Ranger around Deniliquin in what can only be a man made disaster as the weather has been perfect for bird survival and with the area having multiple lakes and healthy grass and trees starvation cannot be the cause.

The death of so many birds has saddened those who witnessed the birds on the ground unable to fly and slowly dying and there is a building up of anger as the poisoning of birds while seen by some as a nice population control method is seen by others as a cruel and needless method to animals that are harmless.

Total number of bird deaths is unknown at this time but it is likely that many of the birds seen in the photographs attached to this blog entry are among the dead, tonight the skies of Deniliquin as the sun is setting will be less spectacular as it is always a great sight to see hundreds of birds go across the sky before the arrival of night and now the sky will be less populated.

Rubbish still a problem outside Coles

Several months ago we reported on the amount of rubbish that is seen outside of Coles and in the surrounding streets and today little has changed.

It still does not make sense to the Deniliquin News Service why people cannot carry their rubbish until they arrive home to put the rubbish in their bin, are shoppers at Coles, Green Pepper and The Reject Shop really that lazy?.

Could a bin or two placed on the nature strip outside Coles and down the Coles side of Henry Street change things for the better for residents, shop owners and tourists?.

High concentrations of Rubbish are found between Coles and the corner of Henry and Macaulay Street and perhaps with a bin it could really change things for the better and enhance Deniliquin’s reputation as a nice town.
