Brown Park has been taped off and the water is being steadily drained out of the lake that occupies half of the park.

This could be the beginning of the plan to make the waters of Brown Park a place for fish to be bred or caught by those who seek a little light recreational fishing not far from the heart of town.

Already several items of rubbish and a Yabbee net has been recovered from the receding waters and there is potential for much more to be buried in the thick mud of the lake.

DNS will continue to watch and report on the action at Browns Park from it’s vantage point of K Block at Deniliquin TAFE which overlooks Brown Park.

Despite business figures in town publicly stating their confidence in an increase of business a look around town shows that their confidence may be misplaced.

Empty shops (and tennis courts) have been spotted throughout town, particularly on the north side of town which is occupied by a minority of residents and the majority of farmers.

The lack of shops on the North side must frustrate residents who have to travel to the south side to get large amounts of shopping, Coles Express does exist at the Shell service station although it does not have the range of items available at Coles in Deniliquin Plaza.

Council could attempt to entice new businesses to the north although what benefits the north side could disadvantage the south where the majority of Deniliquin’s residents live which would make business owners hesitate although if the Bakery can thrive in the north side then any business can if they make the effort to do so.

Recent rains have done wonders for Deniliquin with gardens and lawns starting to brighten with colour.

With water a valuable resource, every drop that nature provides is welcome despite rain usually putting a dampener on activities such as gardening and playing outside.

This recent rain is also good news for those with water tanks as tanks have been getting its share of water which ensures garden and drinking supply for several more days if not weeks.

Further rain is expected during the week but Deniliquin residents will be pleased to know that there will be good days in between the rainy weather.

Since the closure of the Regent Theatre in the early 2000’s, Deniliquin residents have been travelling to Echuca to enjoy a movie at the cinema.

The bright side of this arrangement is that travelers get the opportunity to buy KFC from it’s Echuca store for KFC has been gone from Deniliquin for some time.
The downside of traveling is that it’s almost an hour trip and also costs money in fuel and snack purchases.

There have been past efforts to get a cinema back have failed but it is hoped that now with the advantages of the internet and the desire to make the town better a new opportunity will be born and be allowed to flourish.

A small cinema would be a wonderful edition to Deniliquin although it is true that profits would be hard to obtain unless a wide range of films were shown every day, the flipside is that after seeing a movie patrons could spend their time shopping in town which would no doubt be pleasing to businesses.

With the 2015 Netball season getting closer to finals, Deniliquin Rovers Grade A Netballers have been setting the standard with an almost flawless season.

The Rovers have never won a Grade A title despite many finals apparances and this fact annoys those long who have been long serving players and officials of the club.

If the Rovers win the title this year, it will be the first time that the Rovers have won a top level title in either Netball or Football with the Rovers Football team also having an empty Premiership cabinet when it comes to the highest level.

There is no doubt that the Rovers mean business in 2015 and there is also no doubt that regardless of the 2015 result the Rovers will be meaning even more busines in 2016.
