Get to know the CWA

It’s a little know fact that CWA (Country Womens Association) Boobook Deniliquin does have a page on Facebook, it currently has 78 likes and has recently been updated with activity after a couple of quiet years.

It is great to know and see that the CWA building has been getting a new coat or two of paint, it’s always been a place of fascination to some as it quietly sits in the corner of it’s street surrounded by the Waring Gardens and so it’s paint job would make it stand out among all the plants and trees nearby.

Coming up on April 23 is the ‘Travelling Mini Suitcase and Quilt Show’ where you can see what is offer, meet Lyn Rose who is the President and perhaps join the CWA who are looking for members as seen by the ‘Keep Calm and Join the CWA’ sign on their page.

So if you have ever been interested in joining the CWA visit their page and give it a ‘like’ today.

Herd2Homes continues to grow

Since our last piece on Herd2Homes Dog Rescue, the number of rescued Dogs has increased rapidly as more owners surrender their Kelpies and other breeds to Herd2Homes and/or local pounds, this means that capacity levels are being stretched as efforts continue 24/7 to provide homes for all who come to Herd2Homes.

Kelpies for example are wonderful animals, they are very loyal to owners, they are very playful and they have got a ton of speed, this writer knows first hand about their speed as he was taken on walks/runs by his brother’s Kelpie after he was brought years ago when an ad was spotted and the purchase was made.

DNS knows the good feeling saving a Dog from a pound bring to a person and their family and that more Kelpie lovers will take them in throughout the land.

Over 15,000 people ‘like’ Herd2Homes and between the 15,000 is a great opportunity to help one particular Kelpie named Wilson, Wilson is a 9 month old who dislocated his hip, requiring femoral head excision surgery but surgery is not cheap with the bill totalling $1200.

Donations to cover the cost of the life saving surgery can be made by going to www.givenow.com.au/herd2homes and there is also options for those who prefer can make their donation by putting in the below details at the Bank.

So if you really want a Kelpie or any of the other breeds  especially one that has been well cared for, visit herd2homes.com.au or visit their Facebook page, you could be the one who gives a Kelpie their forever home today.

Rovers Talk 7/4/16

The Rovers Football and Netball teams are looking to build on their Round 1 successes by defeating Blighty on their home turf this Saturday.

Blighty’s A Grade Netball team defeated Mathoura last week in Mathoura and hope that they can stay undefeated by defeating the Rovers on home soil, the Rovers after defeating Yarroweyah are hoping to show they can remain undefeated as well as showing they can win on the road as well as at home.

The Rovers and Blighty had a memorable clash last season where Blighty established an 8 goal lead before the Rovers stormed back to win by the narrowest of margins, it is hoped that this game will not present the same challenge and be a smoother path to victory.

B Grade, C Grade, C Grade Reserves, Under 17’s and Under 13’s all hope to continue their unbeaten run as well whilst the Under 15’s will be aiming to get points on the board after their ten goal loss to Yarroweyah last week.

In Football, the Rovers Seniors are top of the ladder and aim to keep ahead of Blighty by defeating them when the two sides clash on Saturday.

Blighty defeated Mathoura last week and will look to defeating the Rovers to stay undefeated this season whilst the Rovers aim to do the exact same thing at Blighty’s expense.

The Rovers Seniors had ten players scoring at least a goal with three kicking multiple goals in their win against Yarroweyah and the Rovers no doubt hope for a similar result against Blighty.

Blighty had seven goal kickers in their match against Mathoura with five kicking multiple goals but may be hampered by the fact they had less avenues of scoring than the Rovers.

The Rovers Football teams are on top of the ladder in the Seniors, Reserves and Under 17’s and sit third in the Under 14’s.

DNS will report on all the results in the next edition of Rovers Talk.

Go Rovers!

Is Men’s Netball a future possibility?

Netball is a popular sport and you can see that is the case when you see small towns having multiple teams of them in competition of some kind.

It’s gotten DNS thinking, what would happen if there was a Men’s Netball competition? It isn’t really far-fetched of a thought because the number of sports where there is both a Male and Female competition are growing, the AFL will have competitions for both sexes next year after years of exhibition matches between the female Bulldogs and the Demons picked sides.

So imagine if a Men’s Netball competition came into being and we’re not talking about the weekdays competition down at the Stadium but Saturday or Sunday down at Memorial Park competition against other towns just like you see the Rovers and Rams sides in action every Netball season.

The uniforms be would similar to what the ladies wear but of course made for male comfort and the rules would be exactly the same and it should be fun to participate in and fun to watch in action.

It could be something widespread, Could always allow Boys to have competitions just like the current competitions or introduce interschool competitions, or if there is a mixed competition make it exactly even so both teams on paper have the same strengths and weaknesses.

It could happen if the numbers were right, somebody or some town just has to be the first one to say hey we got a really good idea and maybe it would snowball from there.
