One week to go

There’s only one week to go until The Cruising Nationals is on again down at the RSL Club, Airport and Waring Gardens from March 31 to April 2.

The Cruising Nationals is an event that has it all from pre 1975 cars to drags, burnout competitions, night cruises, show and shine and more.

As with last year, the event kick off at the RSL Club on Friday night before the action moves to the Airport on Saturday and then the Waring Gardens on Saturday night and Sunday.

Those who are interested in participating will find both the scrutineering form and the entry form in the ‘Entry Form’ section of the website, website link is at the bottom of this story).

Entry Prices are also listed in the ‘Entry Form’ section for those who want to enter or be a spectator.

This years raffle is offering a 1968 Ford Mustang Convertible as its prize and it would be a fine addition to anyone’s car collection, raffle tickets are going at $5 apiece and the raffle benefits Intereach.

It is recommended that visitors who are looking for accommodation should book their rooms as quickly as possible as vacancies are filled in very quickly and we don’t want anyone to miss out (see the accommodation section of the website for options).

For more information check out The Cruising Nationals website or visit any of the social media locations below.

Sports Talk (23/3/17)

March 23 2017

This is our first edition of Sports Talk, our new sports preview and results guide.

Last year we ran ‘Rovers Talk’ and it was very successful as people read our previews on Thursday nights and the sports results on Saturday nights throughout the 2016 season.

This year is going to be different as we are going to cover the Rams results as well as the Rovers results as best as possible throughout the year.

The Rams are heading to Nathalia on April 8 to kick off the MFL and MNL season.

The Rovers are kicking off their season on the same day at Memorial Park against Blighty in the PDNFL.

It promises to be an interesting year of sport for Deniliquin’s teams and we will do our best to report on all the results as they come to hand.

We’ll be back on April 6 with previews of Round 1.

Wait for Target almost over

March 22 2017

Target reopens in Deniliquin tomorrow after 239 days out of action.

Target Deniliquin was closed on July 27 last year after a fire severely damaged a sizable portion of the store at around 6am that morning.

Local company Liefting Constructions was assigned the task of rebuilding the shop and they have done a masterful job of getting the store re-built and ready for locals to shop and employees to serve them.

Estimates over time put Target Deniliquin’s reopening at April this year which was later revised up to March 30 and finally March 23 putting the builders and Target in the running to match Montgomery Scott when it comes to estimates.

Many if not all locals are happy that Target is coming back, it may seem strange to some readers that people are happy about a department store but not only does Target offer a lot of items for townspeople to buy but it also gives employment to many locals and that is a precious commodity in any community.

Target Deniliquin is currently listed as open at the following times

Thursday 8am to 7pm
Friday 8am to 7pm
Saturday 8am to 6pm
Sunday 9am to 6pm

DNS wishes Target Deniliquin and its employees a great reopening tomorrow and a bright future ahead.

DNS supports Anti-Bullying groups

Last Friday, people around Australia marked ‘National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence’.

Anti-Bullying is something we really believe in as bullying is something that happens in Schools, Workplaces and Homes every day right around the country and the world.

People are bullied over their Race, Religion, Sexual Orientation, Body Weight, Sizes of Body Parts, Clothing Style, Talking Style, IQ Levels, Job Status, Health, Wealth or lack of Wealth and much more.

These days people are bullied in person, on the phone, via Text Message, Chat Rooms, Memes, Videos, Audio and more making it a 24/7 problem.

Those who are bullied lose confidence in themselves and lose faith in people around them, this can lead to isolation, a downturn in health, depression, anxiety and in growing numbers suicide as the torment overruns the desire to stay alive and enjoy the pleasures that life can bring.

For more information visit sites like ‘Bullying. No Way!’ and ‘Stand for the Silent’, two great websites from both Australia and the United States of America that educate and help those who may be bullied or are bullying.

‘Bullying. No Way!’ even has apps that give tips, advice and more for kids to use at anytime.

DNS hopes that all readers respect each other no matter who they are and what they do in life.

Poll Time (20/3/17)

We have three poll questions for readers to consider for the next two weeks.

  1. Is Rubbish becoming more widespread?
  2. Are drugs becoming a problem locally?
  3. Are you happy with local radio station playlists?

The rubbish question comes as rubbish has been found along the riverbank and other locations and it is starting to frustrate locals and someone has to say it has to stop or just allow it to continue.

The drug question was planned for asking after needles were found around town, the question was then held up until the previous poll questions were answered and now we’ve got the opportunity to ask.

Radio playlists are like Baseball, it is either a hit or a miss to listeners and we are wondering if the playlists are pleasant on the ears or do they need a little tweaking like feeling that there should be more or less classic rock, more local music content, take a chance on unknowns or play a wider variety of music or something else.

Poll questions are on the right hand side of this website and are scheduled to be changed on April 3.
