The Subway chain explained

Some time ago, DNS wondered why everything was so high in price for Pizza considering rural areas are the food bowl of every nation on Earth and if there is Aliens on distant planets their rural areas are most likely be the same (you never know, it could all be true).

Today we had the honour of one of the two owners of the Deniliquin franchise tell us about how things are done for Subway, the most interesting part of the message is the following;

$4.27 is added on to each and every item we purchase thru our distributor’

$4.27 for each and every item, so considering what can go into a Subway Sub that’s a lot items that has to be brought in order to make a Sub a Sub then you got everything else to consider as well.

So the owners had the difficult choice businesses must face, sell things at RRP (Recommended Retail Price) or sell things with the cost of each item being transported from distributor to Deniliquin spread across the menu, it should also be mentioned that the owners have the right to set the prices to what suits them if they choose to.

Thankfully for Subway lovers in Deniliquin, the franchise owners declined to set a price above RRP, The $4.27 for each and every item is taken on by the owners which is risky but it does give them respect, customer satisfaction and sales for people love those who make things affordable for their customers.

It’s good that we ask questions, it’s even better that we get answers for it leads to thoughts and more questions, maybe the only answer to the higher cost pain is that something has to be offset by something else and we’re the poor schmucks too far away to have what cities have and have to take a financial hit (and further out areas get it worse).

Lastly, It was mentioned that all organizations sponsored by Subway in Deniliquin are not sponsored by Subway HQ but the actual shop so those who are sponsored by them should thank the franchise owners of Subway in Deniliquin at their next awards speech etc.

Green Pepper delights

Green Pepper Pizza Café is doing well as recent reviews for it’s Pizzas and other treats have been positive.

As reported in previous reports, the hunt for a good Pizza has been on many minds following the upheavals at Central Pizza & Pasta that has led to decreased consumer confidence in the establishment.

Below is one of the recent examples of cooked pizzas from Green Pepper, this one is a half all meat and half Hawaiian Pizza and it was cooked nice and properly ensuring a good Pizza eating experience.

Those who are sharp eyed on detail may notice there is little oil on or around the Pizza, such results are considered very pleasing.

With the installation earlier this year of flags advertising the business, there is no reason to not miss Green Pepper Pizza Café as it sits on it’s own in the corner of Deniliquin Plaza.

There is also a Facebook page where people can find out trading hours, phone number (both listed below), menu, specials and much more.

Green Pepper is open six days a week and it’s phone number is (03) 5881 4177 for those who wish to place an order on the nights it is opened (every day except Monday), Readers will also be pleased to know that customer service is also high quality making it a good all round experience.

Rovers Talk (16/4/16)

The Rovers came out to play at home today and they’d shown it by displaying solid efforts with the Netball sides all grabbing wins whilst the Football sides had a mixed day.

Netball

A Grade were out to get the win after their loss to Blighty last week and they delivered with a seven goal win, the final score at the end of the game was 51 to 44.
This result gives them the ‘Meatloaf’ with the side winning two out of three and as the song goes ‘two out of three ain’t bad’.

B Grade had a day out after defeating their Picola United opponents by 25 with the final score reading 49 to 24.

C Grade won in similar fashion to A Grade with a win by a margin of seven, the final scores read 40 to 33.

C Reserve won their match by a margin of eight with the score at the end of the match reading 36 to 28.
The margin put them second in terms of victory margins by the Rovers Senior teams today.

The Juniors also had a very solid day and we have it all for you below.

The Under 17’s finished their game with a 17 goal win with the scoreboard reading 44 to 27 at the end and the result means they are three wins from three games.

The Under 15’s won by 11 goals with the score 30 to 19 at the end of the game, this was the 15’s first win of the 2016 season so congratulations to the team.

The Under 13’s won their game with the scores reading 35 to 13 giving the Rovers side a still unbeaten start to the season.

Football

The Seniors were out looking for a win after their loss to Blighty yesterday and unfortunately they were beaten again today with the final scores Picola United 23.6 – 144 to the Rovers 10.8 – 68 with the margin 76 points.

T. Lumbar continued his good form with three goals, J Allit and S. Cuffe both kicked two goals and singles to M. Braybon, B. McCalman and A. Bodey

Highlight of the game for the Rovers Seniors was their second quarter in which they kicked 4.2 to Picola’s 4.0 to take the quarter by two points.

The Reserves are in good form and they have continued that way with a good win over their Picola United opponents, with the scores being 6.10 – 49 to 4.4 – 28.
The Reserves were down by five points at quarter time, ahead by two at half time, ahead by ten at three quarter time before winning by 18.

Goal kickers for the Rovers were J. Bode with three goals, L. Fleming kicked two and J. Thorpe with one.

U/17’s won their game by 63 points with the scores at the final siren reading 11.13 – 79 to 2.4 – 16, it was close at half time with the margin just ten points between them before the Rovers kicked 8.6 to 0.1 in the second half to win the game.

B. Sartore and D. Kirby 2 kicked four and two goals apiece with B. Purtill, A. Simpson, R. Norris, J. Allitt and J. Caniglia all kicking one goal each.

U/14’s had a more tighter contest than the U/17’s with the Rovers eventually winning by 22 points, the final scores were 11.9 – 75 to 8.5 – 53.

T. Chandler and T. McDonnell both kicked two goals apiece with A. Bermingham, B. Thomson, H. Mowat, J. Woodcock, J. Ezard and J. Liu all kicking one goal apiece.

Thoughts

A great day for the Deniliquin Rovers with nine wins out of ten for the Club when combining Netball and Football results together.

Congratulations once again to the U/15 Netball team for winning their first game of the 2016 season, no doubt the first of many this year.

Rovers Seniors are no doubt disappointed in losing two games in a row in Football but they live to fight another day and will give it their all to win against Jerilderie on their turf next week.

What if we had a Car & Ute Museum?

Deniliquin loves vehicles of all kinds, we got a large amount of classic cars, a wide range of Utes, Clubs with strong memberships, a track, a Ute on a Pole, another Ute all dressed up with art, car restorers, car photographers plus as this is being written The Cruising Nationals is on and more.

So what if the love for all things with wheels is translated into a museum that shows off all of the automotive wonders under one roof?

Echuca has one with filled with Holden cars and it is pretty nice but what if we go for something a little wide ranging? There’s no denying that collectively car owners of Deniliquin have a wide range of cars from both current and defunct manufacturers .

Maybe borrow a NASCAR or a AUSCAR (and show people what the Super Speedway era of the 1980’s until the late 1990’s were like) and add a few more racing category examples for people love their motor sport as well and it may get people really curious.

Rotate the cars on display so people get to see something different all the time and also allow owners to take their cars to shows etc, it could work particularly since Deni has so many events on that bring the tourists in and it could bring in the all important money and people to town when an event is not going on.

It’s all possible and part of DNS’s existence is to make people think of what could happen with what people have got, it could end up being something really cool.

Hair will go for good cause

Last month was a successful month for The World’s Greatest Shave in Deniliquin but the story isn’t quite over yet.

Tomorrow (April 15) at 5pm down at Vogue Hair Design, locals Megan Marcu and Alex Paul will be getting their heads shaved after their brilliant efforts last month for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Residents are invited to go and have some nibbles, have some drinks and give some money to the Leukaemia Foundation as they watch all the hair being shaved in a name of a good cause.

Additional details are available on the event page and may the day be a success.
