Have a say in the ERC with OurSay

August 26 2017

There is a change happening in the local area, people are becoming more vocal, more ideas are proposed and change is slowly happening.

The ERC’s new Councillors will be having plenty to do as there is now two trains of thought established, ‘Open Space Strategy‘ and ‘Public Space Strategy‘.

The above two links will take you to the two sections and below explains the two.

For ‘Open Space Strategy’, there are three questions asked and they are wanting to know the following;

  • Are our parks, playgrounds, sporting reserves and open spaces important to you?
  • What do you use our parks and open spaces for?
  • How can our open spaces better meet the needs of our community?

People can have their say thanks to a seven section survey that can be visited by clicking on the linked section of this paragraph or you can just submit your idea on the ‘Open Space Strategy’ page.

For ‘Public Space Strategy’, the Council wants to know the following

  • What do you like and value about Deniliquin?
  • What could be better?
  • What do you want to see in Deniliquin’s future?
  • What are your ideas to make Deniliquin’s public spaces more welcoming and inviting?

Like ‘Open Space Strategy’ there is a survey but it is only three sections instead of seven so it is the quickest way and there is also the idea submitting section on the ‘Public Space Strategy’ page.

The forums close on October 30 so locals throughout the ERC have plenty of time to think about and answer the questions and help shape the future of the local area.

Sports Talk (25/8/17)

August 25 2017

We apologise for the lateness of Sports Talk but we hope this edition has been worth the wait.

This edition looks at what the Rams have to do in the final round of the season as places can still change with all Rams sides in a position to shuffle the finishing positions of themselves and the opposition.

Rams Football

Seniors

The Seniors were ripped apart by ladder leader Numurkah last weekend but they will be eager to get out there and defeat Cobram because seventh place is at stake with both clubs holding a 7-10 record.

Reserves

The Reserves have had a tough season, winning one game and being awards points from a forfeit in another, they cannot advance up the ladder due to Congupna being a game and almost 33% up on the Rams.

The Reserves could end up being matched on wins by Finley who have played ten less games if they play and shock fifth placed Mulawa on the weekend.

Under 17’s

The Under 17’s are finals bound and they can end up third if they beat Cobram and Finley loses to Mulawa who sits in eighth.

Whilst second spot is only a game ahead of the Rams, they are more than 65% ahead on percentage making taking second a tough ask.

Under 14’s

The Under 14’s are sitting in fourth spot whilst Cobram are 5th, a game and almost 200% behind the Rams.

Ahead of the Rams sits Echuca United who are playing undefeated Numurkah, in order for the Rams to climb to third they must win and rely on Numurkah defeating Echuca United.

Rams Netball

A Grade

A Grade are in fifth position and can move up to fourth if they win and Echuca United (4th) falls to Numurkah (2nd).

B Grade

B Grade are in fifth position and can move up to fourth if Mulawa (4th) loses to Finley (2nd) as there is a two competition point difference between 4th and 5th places.

C Grade

C Grade won’t make the finals but can secure eighth spot by defeating Cobram, if Cobram wins the Rams will drop to ninth due to Cobram having a percentage 2.5% higher than the Rams.

C Reserve

C Reserve are in third position and cannot drop down to fourth as Moama has the bye.

Under 17’s

Win or lose, the Under 17’s will finish the regular season in fifth place but they can deny Cobram the chance of taking third off Moama should Moama lose to Nathalia who are sitting tenth.

Under 15’s

The Under 15’s are secured in second spot but Cobram will be hungry to keep their eighth place as three clubs can pass them if Cobram loses and they win big.

Under 13’s

The Under 13’s are fifth and can drop to sixth if they lose and Mulawa wins, if the Rams win and Mulawa wins the Rams have a slight chance of catching Finley in fourth if the Rams gain 9.5%.

Conclusion

This weekend is going to be a big weekend for the Rams are there is plenty still on the line for the club.

We’ll have the results for you tomorrow night in Sports Talk.

Poll Time (23/8/17)

August 23 2017

We are back with four new questions that hopefully will be of interest, we look at the Ute Muster, ERC Election, Rates and School Zones.

Is School Zone speeding becoming a problem?

About once a week, people around town will have heard from somebody else that cars going are fast along the designated school zones, so we are wondering if it is really a problem or just a person or two in a hurry to get somewhere.

Are rates still considered too high?

100% of those who voted four months ago said that they are too high, is it still the case or are things fairer?

Are you getting more excited about the Ute Muster?

By the time the Poll ends, it will be under a month to go until the Muster arrives, are people starting to look forward to the event or it is still buried deep in the mind?

What would you like to see happen from the ERC elections?

A couple of days after this poll is completed, residents of the ERC are going to the polling booth to pick the first full Edward River Council.

What kind of policy would you like to see, somebody combating rates? pushing for transport? making deals to get more cameras up at the Plaza? Be inclusive with other towns?

Will the Australia Day moving situation that is developing in Victoria happen in Edward River Council or will it stay put?

Multiple choice is available and the other section is available if you got something on your mind, it may be a winner.

Polls close on Tuesday September 5 and votes can be made on the right hand side (PC/Mac) and on the bottom for mobile users.

Could EPS video go viral?

August 23 2017

Edward School may become very famous in the coming days if a video of their staff turning Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ into a song that fits nicely into book week gets picked up the masses.

The song is called ‘Read All Day’ and as you can imagine the song is pretty self explanatory.

The video has it all, teachers and staff miming, reading, skipping, dancing and acting and its actually nicely done and the song recording ain’t that bad too as it is done with quality.

If this video does go viral it is not a bad thing because reading is important and if it makes people think about reading and think about the purpose of Book Week then it is a win.

So do what the song says, read all day and then do it every day.

Deni Speaks (22/8/17)

August 22 2017

For the last two weeks, we ran four polls on our website with questions on Sport, Events, Buildings and Security

Does Deniliquin Plaza need more Cameras?
Are you looking forward to the 2017 Football/Netball Finals?
What is your favourite local event?
Have you gotten used to a building between Town Hall and The Globe?

Results

Does Deniliquin Plaza need more Cameras?

Yes – 100%
No – 0%

Are you looking forward to the 2017 Football/Netball Finals?

No – 70%
Yes – 30%

What is your favourite local event?

Cruising Nationals – 30%
Ute Muster – 22%
Deniliquin Show – 22%
Deniliquin XXXX Fishing Classic – 22%
Antiques and Collectibles Rally – 4%

Have you gotten used to a building between Town Hall and The Globe?

No – 55%
Yes – 44%

Conclusion

The total support for more cameras at Deniliquin Plaza is a surprise considering that 60% of voters in December said the Plaza does not need them, hopefully the ERC and the owners of the Plaza and come to some agreement on ensuring the needs are met.

Not a lot of people are looking towards Football and Netball finals, maybe because the season is coming to a close or their team did not make it to finals or just don’t like sport.

The Cruising Nationals is slowly gaining popularity (especially if they keep offering such a nice car in the raffle) and it is top of the list on our poll whilst voters gave an equal share to the Muster, the Show and Fishing Classic whilst the voter’s addition of the Collectors rally will be added when we look back at this in a few months time.

Just over half the voters aren’t used to a building between the Town Hall and The Globe which is understandable as there was just an ugly fence there for twenty years and pretty much a whole generation saw it whilst those who voted Yes were probably used to the time a building was there for decade after decade.

We’ll be back tomorrow with Poll Time.
