Grand Final Talk (7/9/17)

September 7 2017

The Rovers season comes to an end on the weekend with three teams in the Grand Final.

Rovers Netball

A Grade vs Tocumwal
C Reserve vs Blighty

A Grade has struggled against Tocumwal having lost their previous three encounters by 8, 7 and 12 goals in Rounds 8 and 17 as well as the Semi Final.

C Reserve are also against solid opposition in Blighty having lost their Round 1 clash by 9 goals, winning their Round 10 clash by 9 and losing their Semi Final by 17 goals.

Rovers Football

Under 14’s vs Tocumwal

Tocumwal won the Round 8 clash by 53 points, the Round 17 clash by 57 points and the Semi Final by 52 points.

Tocumwal has had the perfect season so far and the Rovers have had a good season dropping only four matches all season including the Semi Final.

Conclusion

All the above may not look really good but some will tell you it doesn’t mean a thing, there are things to consider like weather, health, nerves and levels of confidence.

Cooler or warmer conditions may help or hinder players, the recent cold and windy weather may have affected players, nerves can made a solid player make mistakes and the right balance of confidence can do wonders while too much or too little confidence can do the opposite.

So all the Rovers have to do is keep relaxed, listen to instructions, play their best, play for each other, keep calm and let things play out from there.

We’ll be back Saturday night with all the results.

Deni Speaks (5/9/17)

September 5 2017

For the last two weeks, we ran four polls on our website with questions on Speeding, Ute Muster, ERC Election and Rates.

Is School Zone speeding becoming a problem?
Are rates still considered too high?
Are you getting more excited about the Ute Muster?
What would you like to see happen from the ERC elections?

Results

Is School Zone speeding becoming a problem?

No – 55%
Yes – 45%

Are rates still considered too high?

Yes they are still too high – 85%
No, they are just right – 15%
No, the rates are pretty generous – 0%

Are you getting more excited about the Ute Muster?

No – 91%
Yes – 9%

What would you like to see happen from the ERC elections?

Kerbside recycling become reality – 18%
Keep Australia Day on January 26 – 18%
Rates frozen or lowered – 16%
Rates be more value for money – 14%
Roadworks to be first priority – 11%
Deal to install more cameras at Deniliquin Plaza – 7%
Push for better transport options (rail, bus, train) – 7%
Less dog barking in early morning hours – 4%
Make business employees park in employee areas – 4%
Better interaction between towns – 2%
Move Australia Day from January 26 – 0%

Conclusion

10% isn’t a big margin on the question of speeding, it will be interesting to see on social media if there is more reports of speeding for the rest of the school year.

Rates are still considered too high and one reason this is believed is because money given to Council is not considered well spent, the ERC’s first council will be under some pressure to deliver.

People don’t seem to be getting more excited about the Ute Muster, either it is unpopular or people just have fun on the weekend itself just like a routine music festival or Friday-Saturday night parties.

Recycling and keeping Australia Day on the 26th were the main points people want to see from the election, the ERC said there are looking at the feasibility of recycling and so the pressure is on to make it happen.

Any moving of Australia Day events from January 26 would be considered political suicide whilst rates taken up positions three and four and roadworks slotted in to 5th.

Latest ERC Election news

September 1 2017

We are just over a week away from the Edward River Council election and things are starting to get busy.

Making the rounds of local social media is a post from Norm Brennan’s page that he has announced that four ex Conargo Shire Councillors in Mac Wallace, Nick Metcalfe, Peter McCrabb and himself have banded together to deliver a united message to voters.

The message is that Conargo Shire was debt free for 20 years, had high community satisfaction, all four men are sound financial managers, they shown the required balance between infrastructure and growth and more.

Meanwhile on ‘Peta Betts VOTE 1 Edward River Council‘ page, the page has been well updated with Peta’s achievements and she has told people what her agenda and platform are.

On the ‘Vote 1 Rob Sobolewski‘, Rob has talked up having a Dog Park for Deniliquin as well as mentioning well equipped Family & Sports Facilities, Recycling, Arts & Culture and the Murray Darling Basin Plan

Pete Robinson‘s page has a bunch of videos in which he states his views on many issues including removing the power lines from the War Memorial to Town Hall, working on Napier Street, unblock the views of the Edward River and more.

Andrew Howley‘s page doesn’t have much but he was on the previous Deniliquin Council that improved the financial balance by 3.3 million dollars in just three years.

Pat Fogarty has posted on DNS to state the following;

“With a few years a local government experience and a well developed business logistics, I’m confident I will deliver upon the communities expectations.
Top priorities for me are to explore diverse opportunities for both our urban and rural environments, join with the community to develop our Community Plans to enable a strategic pathway forward, review our assets and determine a priority listing for future development, ensure our fiscal position remains strong, investigate recycling options, and support the staff team with the final step of the merger process”.

Hopefully the above will help in some way towards making a decision on September 9 and we will continue to report on the latest as it comes to hand.
