Deniliquin on YouTube – May 2018

May 27 2018

Every couple of months we take a look at YouTube has that is related to town and in the last month there is a couple of options, some of them are below.

A show called Art-E-Facts has a video on local artist Meg Williams, the video runs for just over four minutes and was made by South West Arts Inc.

Deniliquin Sporting Car Club has a range of videos showing competitors competing in the NGK Victorian Motorkhana Championship.

The videos are of various lengths with the longest being 1 minute and 53 seconds.

Big4 Deniliquin Holiday Park has a couple of videos online and they show all the good things and the good times that people can have at the park.

Deniliquin Riverside Caravan Park has a couple of videos on offer showing people all the great things the caravan park has on offer.

Elders Deniliquin from time to time posts videos of livestock with a new video just posted for those who like to see what livestock is on offer.

Noisy Street Design have been releasing videos that they have worked on and the latest one is a music video that features Zara Lindeman and Shane McGrath singing a song, the song is called ‘Autumn Leaves’ and it has over 100 views.

They also have a music video by Ruby Saltbush titled ‘The Way That It Goes’ and it is approaching 100 views.

We hope that you found some of these videos interesting and don’t forget to look around as you may find other videos of interest, if you have a YouTube account make sure you subscribe to each of their channels to get future content.

We’ll check back for more videos in the near future.

Deniliquin briefly lost their thumbs

May 18 2018

If you have been wondering why Facebook has been quiet recently, it may have something to do with the fact there is no more of the classic Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down group.

Thousands of posts gone from history just like that and those posts came from thousands of people who were part of the group that rarely had a dull moment.

It seemed to have been a chaotic group, rules were more flexible than a Stretch Armstrong figure, there was a lot of admins and fights happened daily over well everything but occasionally people were told what they really needed to know (locations of used needles, customer service in shops etc).

A business that was given the thumbs down one day were almost assured of getting a barrage of thumbs up posts by the next day and the town quickly learned that criticizing a business was a very bad idea (do it in person instead, problems are usually solved that way).

The group sure had it all in its existence and people no doubt will miss what they saw going on day to day.

But don’t worry readers, there is another group out there to serve all your needs in getting to know who or what the movers and shakers of public opinion are.

So an era ended and a new one has begun, will it be as interesting and chaotic as the last one? Probably not but there’s no doubt it will be informative.

Growing Deniliquin

April 28 2018

How can Deniliquin grow and expand?

It is a question that has many answers because there is pros and cons to every situation.

There is so much that locals need or want to have in town and it often gets bogged down in ‘No’ and ‘But…….’ conversations, interest dies out and the task begins anew.

For years people want KFC back, the counter claim is that KFC was not viable and other KFC outlets had to make profit so KFC in Deniliquin could remain open.

People want a cinema back but people say that the Regent couldn’t get patrons to justify staying open even if it did offer the fantastic price of $5 per movie.

We lost our train access in the late 1970’s, we could of used it now especially with the Ute Muster and Cruising Nationals and every other event that comes Deniliquin’s way and lord knows the ERC loves events.

Some want the Town Hall to be opened back up to music entertainment as it is said the place was rocking to the beat of various music genres for decades but then again we have lots of spaces for such things.

The counter argument to the counter arguments on things like KFC and Cinema is that all the data is no less than eight years old, lots can happen in eight years from demographically to technologically.

Maybe KFC was built in the wrong spot or was too big, maybe the Regent was too big in size considering people used to skate on the ground level and there was even Video Ezy down there in the late 90’s.

There is the possibility that the Cinema question will be soon solved as DomaCom is going to put a 60-80 seat cinema in the Feddy once they raise $1.5 million and they will be teaming up with MOOVIBAR who offer an experience like Gold Class in big Cinemas.

Some may feel that if we go too forward we will lose our identity, much like how 1521 2QN and 102.5 are now part of radio networks and the local link is only about 25% of the day plus ads.

Why do we support the KFC petition etc so much? We believe in peoples right to dream the future, they might be right or they may be wrong but they got the right to share it and hope to find the audience to back them up.

Don’t be afraid to express yourselves with ideas or take action with them, the creators of Deni Community Theatre expressed themselves and created the DCT and it paid off for them and hopefully their fundraiser will enable them to get even more.

Who knows maybe the battered old Community Centre could be rebuilt to accommodate them and really give the youth more to do with that side of town and make the quiet side of End Street less quiet.

Keep thinking, keep talking, keep planning, keep on pushing Deniliquin forward and mix past with present and future.

We will continue to report on the Theatre company as news comes to hand.

KFC petition doing well

April 19 2018

The KFC petition launched by Matt Dyson is doing well.

There is currently 165 signatures on the petition and while it may seem a joke to some, it is serious business to some.

Perhaps it is time to bring KFC back to stop locals doing forays into Victoria for the eleven herbs and spices on their varieties of of chicken, keep money close to home and perhaps bring residents from neighbouring towns to our town too for their KFC fix.

Nine pieces for $10 on a Tuesday or two dozen nuggets at a decent price or large chips for $2, there are so many menu possibilities.

Of course there is opposition to the idea of KFC making a triumphant return, some think we do not need any more of the big chains in our town ruining our way of life and the facade of the town.

People fear that KFC will kill off competition, we’ve had McDonald’s since the late 1990’s and Subway in the last decade but we still see Black Cat, Laughing Chicken, That Pizza, Cressy Pizza and more still trading and trading well.

People say that KFC failed once therefore it will fail again but don’t forget that the Subway we’ve got is the second Subway we’ve had and when the second store was opened, it was well received so comebacks are possible.

The town loves takeaway, we cannot get enough and as mentioned earlier our town not Echuca could be the new port of call for travelers from places like Conargo, Warragoon, Blighty, Mayrung and Finley to get their KFC fix.

Imagine if the Federal Hotel gets its cinema going, Echuca will lose customers who went all the way to see a movie and get dinner on the way back, think about all that money that stays in town.

Business equals jobs which equals pay which equals spending elsewhere which in turn equals people being paid and they spend their money elsewhere.

The possibilities are endless and as we once mentioned the chatter has to continue, words are where ideas begin and actions begin from the reading of words.

Who is hungry now?
