Where is Deniliquin?

Before anyone gets alarmed or mad, DNS knows exactly where Deniliquin is but as many people have pointed out throughout time some people and organizations have no idea.

It is true that Deniliquin gets Victorian TV, Victoria’s 03 when it comes to dialling, the Herald Sun is also the paper of choice but we are not located in Victoria as some publications have listed the town under.

There have been photographs of a dried out river that was said to be the Edward a few years back and that really got people mad as it was damaging for tourism because if people thought the Edward River was dry, nobody would come.

A statement on visitdeni.com.au has gotten peoples attention, the page is very nice with great use of colours and photographs though some of the eating out lists need updating but there’s a sticking point on the front page.

Welcome

The sticking point to people is that it says Deniliquin is ‘The Murrays Best Kept Secret’ which is amusing to some because the Murray River is about a 45 minute drive to the south.

Perhaps the writers say the Murrays because the Edward River is an anabranch of the Murray River therefore it is all the Murrays.

The counter argument to the Murrays statement is that just because the Edward’s water flows from the Murray doesn’t make it the Murray River and Deniliquin cannot be the Murrays best kept secret because that’s for towns that are on the banks of the Murray and we should be the best kept secret of the Edward River.

No doubt this sticky point will reach the eyes and ears in charge of Tourism and perhaps a correction be made for the good of everyone to make total sense, we wouldn’t want tourists driving the roads around the Murray looking for a town that’s just not there because we are on the anabranch of it.

EDIT: Story edited to better explain the position of the debate between being on the Murray and not being on the Murray.

Goodbye DC, Hello ERC

Deniliquin Council was killed off by NSW Premier Mike Baird yesterday putting an end to one era and starting a new but uncertain one.

Deniliquin Council was the only Council to exist with the purpose of serving only one town and that meant that Deniliquin had something truly unique even if rate payers and residents were not satisfied with the level of care in the last few months of the Council’s life.

We should acknowledge that those who were under Conargo Shire’s jurisdiction have also lost those who served them as the terms for those elected to Deniliquin Council and Conargo Shire were dumped effective yesterday.

With the merger, visitors to Deniliquin will no longer be puzzled after seeing Conargo Shire offices on one street and Deniliquin Council offices on another.

Edward River Council is the new name of the merged Council and Shire and the merger is designed to make things easier as well as having benefits in terms of bigger amounts of money and faster built and maintained infrastructure though many have doubt this will truly be the case.

News.com.au have written an article on what the merger means for residents of all merged areas and DNS encourages readers to check it out by clicking here.

We hope for the sakes of Deniliquin and surrounding areas that this merger does everything it’s supposed to do even though we all know that throughout Australian history, Mergers have never been a popular thing across Australia.

Three in a row brings new May record

The rain returned to Deniliquin yesterday with 7.2mm of rain falling in town making it three straight days of rain that amounted to over 5mm.

122.2mm of rain has fallen in Deniliquin over the course of this year so far, it is still 10mm below average up to this point of the year which is 132.3mm.

The good news is that the current rainfall total of 59.4mm is a new Weatherzone record (records kept since 1998) with the previous record being 52.8mm which was set in 2010 and there is still two thirds of the month to go to increase this new record too.

Rain under 1mm could fall like today for several days more whilst the wind will be blowing 20+ kph winds until Friday where the wind will stay between 10kph and 20kph for several days with the highest speed expected to be 18kph on Saturday.

Friday to Sunday and next Tuesday are the days where residents can expect mostly sunny conditions whilst Thursday and Monday are expected to have mostly cloudy and cloudy conditions.

We hope Deniliquin residents enjoyed the rain and may we get sunnier conditions sooner rather than later before a return to some more rain.

Myatt’s a leader in online broadcasting

Local man Anthony Myatt has been busy in recent years making apps to make online radio broadcasting easier than ever.

Anthony not only makes apps for broadcasting but he had a stint in running his own online radio station called TribeFM which was a great experience for himself and for those who got to be on the air either talking about day to day things or playing their favourite tracks for the people, giving listeners insight into the life of the radio presenter.

iBroadcast was the first program to be launched and the program allows users to turn their iPad into an online radio broadcast station, the program has many abilities including music, voice and Auto DJ for those want music to keep on going and much more.

iCast for the iPhone was then launched, iCast was aimed at those who like to do talk shows or wantto use the program as external audio hardware.

After iCast had a run, iCast 2 was released for the public to enjoy with improvements on the original yet this new iCast retained the easy to use style that made it a good choice.

iBroadcast 2 is now being developed and so far it is doing well as readers can see in the pictures below, this program will no doubt offer more than the original which is a win for all users seeking to hit the online airwaves yet retain all the characteristics that made the original a good online radio product.

iBroadcast can be purchased from iTunes and iCast 2 can also be purchased on iTunes, those interested in the development of the two programs can also visit online Anthony’s Deniliquin based company Imperative Apps, Imperative Apps has both a website and Facebook page to choose from.

The two programs mentioned above show that Deniliquin has within it’s boundaries a leader in making online radio as portable as possible.

Two days in a row for Deni

Rain fell again today with another 15.4mm falling around town before the rain cleared in the afternoon.

With Sunday delivering 17.2mm of rain, the total amount of rain over the last two days was an impressive 32.6mm.

Residents are absolutely delighted with the rainfall which was much needed as the total of rainfall in Deniliquin for 2016 is now 4.4mm more than what it was at this time last year.

There is a 30% chance of showers tomorrow morning and winds will start dying down on Friday morning with the wind not expected to top 12kph on the day compared to the 30kph winds we’ve been experiencing in recent days.

As we finish this report on the two days of rain, DNS offers another picture taken by Dan Clark which once more shows the rain wetting the ground that so needed a good drink and we hope the rain comes back again soon.
