No change in Algae levels

On this World Water Day, DNS reports that the DPI has recently updated it’s report on the Algae situation in the Edward River and it’s branches.

The report is that the Red Alert level is steady for Gulpa Creek as well as the entire Edward and Wakool River system.

This update is no doubt what farmers and residents have not been wanting as it this situation has now dragged on for several weeks, some residents and farmers believe it is the Murray-Darling Basin Plan that is responsible for this problem and it’s annihilation will be what is needed to reverse the situation.

As with previous reports, please keep yourselves, fellow human beings, pets, stray animals and farm animals away from any affected areas.

DNS will continue to report on the situation as it continues on.

Garage Sale promotion made easy

Every now and then families have to have a garage sale, sometimes it’s because the family is moving out of town, sometimes down the street and you’ve found stuff you need gone but is too valuable to dump or you just have so much stuff you got to empty the house a little bit.

There are excellent choices for promoting your garage sale, there’s the proven method of signs on power poles and below stop signs and other signage, there’s getting an ad in the paper or Facebook post it so your friends can see it.

There is another choice and that is the page ‘Garage Sales in Deniliquin’, a page where Garage Sales are listed from the local paper and also from contributors on the page.

The page has 148 likes at this stage and DNS hopes that this number will increase as more people have successful Garage Sales and people also pick up items of great value more often.

Noodle store a hit

Deniliquin is known for having plenty of Takeaway options from Pizza and Pasta to Chinese food and Thai food and of course McDonalds and Subway.

Papa’s Rich Noodle has been the latest to open in Deniliquin and it already has a reputation of serving yummy and pretty good food at a good price.

Papa’s Rich Noodle has a string of stores around Australia and so it is good that such a franchise would open it’s doors in Deniliquin even if some think Deniliquin has got enough stores offering Asian food and other treats.

So if you are in the mood for some Kung Pau and Cantonese Beef or some of the other items on the menu, head on down to the store which is located next to Devour Café and Catering on Cressy Street and have some Asian meals today.

Calls for Cinema growing

Last year, DNS talked about the locals wishing a Cinema was back in town so they didn’t have to travel 45 minutes to see the latest release movie.

It is true the Regent Theatre didn’t offer a whole heap of movies per day during it’s long run but it’s low prices ensured that residents could see a good movie at a fraction of the cost elsewhere even if there was a blacked out Video Store below.

Where could a cinema go now? Perhaps one can be built towards the Stadium end of Napier Street or perhaps be built beside Deniliquin Plaza (corner of Henry and Hardinge) or even be built in the empty space at the corner of Hardinge and Harfleur Street.

Maybe it could be built in North Deniliquin as there is plenty of space there and the North does deserve a build up of amenities.

Then again Deniliquin could always just offer the Deniliquin Baptist Church a stack of cash for the town to reclaim the Regent Theatre and make it back into the cinema it was, the downside to that is would the purchase and refitting price of the Regent be below what it would cost to build and open a brand new one?

Having a cinema back in Deniliquin would be a boost to the lives of residents both young and old, families could save money in fuel costs, nights out can be extended a couple of hours and during the day people could relax to a movie, a money spinner if it’s played right.

All Deniliquin has to do is make it happen.

Should the bin network be expanded?

Humanity can be a sloppy species, we can be careless with our environment and around the world the carelessness seems to be increasing as rubbish is dumped more frequently.

What if Deniliquin’s stationary bin network (the maroon coloured ones) is expanded a little further, covering all the way down Hardinge Street and expanded down the Coles side of Henry Street and connecting streets where rubbish is known to laying around.

Rubbish is usually dropped within 100m of the point where consumers brought the product they just consumed with the area just behind Deniliquin Plaza being a popular place for litter dropping.

Some rubbish is held onto until it is consumed across the road and the rubbish ends up in some unlucky residents yard making them look like they are slobs.

It would mean more work for those who empty the bins on Cressy Street and other streets where bins are located but it could open the door of employment opportunity despite increased costs of having more people or current people working more hours.

Would an increased number of bins stop people littering? That depends on the person carrying the rubbish of the product they just used but would it increase chances of somebody picking it up and taking it a short distance to a bin where it belongs.
