In this edition of Rovers Talk we have nothing but serious and great information for you to enjoy on this jocular day.

After months of preparation, the A Grade Netball team is raring to go with their first game against Yarroweyah from 12:30pm tomorrow (April 2) on Court 1 at Memorial Park, before their game there is plenty of Netball action at Memorial Park with the following games and more;

The Rovers senior Football team will be taking on Yarroweyah at Memorial Park with the first bounce of the ball at 2:05pm.

Good luck to all Rovers teams this weekend and may the games be played fairly and without any injury to any players.

Tomorrow night is the big night in the Clubrooms with the ‘Deni Dero Shuffle’ kicking off  at 7pm for those over 18’s looking for a great night out, finger food will be provided by Smokoshak, Drinks are at Bar prices and the dress code is Bogan/Dero.

40 songs can be purchased on the night, a song will cost you $40 with the 40 songs scattered throughout the night’s playlist and the last song to get played gets the $600 on offer.

Statistically participants have a 2.5% shot at winning the $600 prize but if you are the winner at the end of it all, your profit is 15 times the investment but even if you don’t win it is for the good of the club so if you got the cash to spend then give it a shot and have fun at the same time.

Go Rovers!

A new School era set for 2017

Deniliquin’s public Primary School’s will be merging as escalating costs to run the three schools have forced no alternative but for the schools to join forces and be one school from 2017 onwards.

The new school will be called Deniliquin Public School and will incorporate the colours of all the schools leading some who were in the know to nickname the new school ‘The Rainbows’ due to the mix of colours of Green, Red, Blue, White and Yellow.

Deniliquin’s current public school principals are all vying for the new job with each principal having solid resumes that would make them an ideal choice for leading Deniliquin’s public schooling into a new era.

It has been jokingly suggested that the principals of North and South School play a game of heads or tails with the winner of the contest taking on Edward School’s principal for the right to be suggested to the Department of Education as the inaugural principal.

South School has been chosen as the merger site but the merger has not been smooth sailing with North School providing the heaviest resistance to the merger in the closed doors meetings that has put the schools on the path towards the upcoming new and historic era.

Edward School believed it’s school would be the choice location due to it’s abundance of space but were forced to concede after it was shown South School’s site would be better from a School Bus route perspective.

Edward School however got a consolation prize as it’s motto ‘Truth Above All’ is the motto of choice for DPS, a move that brought cheers to those campaigning for Edward School to have a large say in proceedings.

It is still yet to be decided if any buildings from Edward and North School will be transported over to South School, If none of the buildings can be safely transported it is likely that DPS will get Government funding to build what is needed in order to fit everyone in for the 2017 school year.

The new school song is expected to be an altered form of North School’s school song with North insisting ‘Cha Cha Cha’ is kept at the end of the song with the accompanying bum shaking to remain as optional as it is considered a nice end to something so formal as a school song.

School bus routes should not be affected but times may be altered to make sure that everyone who needs to be taken by bus can get to school and continue their education at DPS.

It will be a sad time in December as all three schools close for the last time, there has been decades of great students and teachers as well as intense rivalries that sometimes escalated into verbal and on occasion physical fights between schools but soon after the majority of all who graduated from the fine establishments all ended up at Deni High and be classmates the very next year.

Meanwhile Deniliquin Christian School and St Michael’s are staying on their own and will not merge into a multi religion private school with both of the schools believing that it is God’s plan for the other schools to merge and their schools to remain intact.

Relax readers, it’s April 1 and the Schools are going to be fine.

North’s Song remembered

North School Song (M Young).

We love to be at Deni North the edge of the outback plains.
White cockatoos above the lagoons, even when it rains.
We love to be at Deni North , under the southern stars.
Best kids around from country and town, they come from near and far.

 Chorus

North School! We are having lots of fun.North School! We are playing games.
North School! We are working side by side
Truth and justice is our aim.

D.N.P.S.

We love to be at Deni North, home of the blue and gold.
So join in the fun, come on everyone
Deni North the blue and gold.
Deni North the blue and gold.

-Cha! Cha! Cha!

When this writer first went to DNPS in the mid 90’s, the first memory was having to learn this song and the second one was that the song involved people using pom poms which was something new (even the site has a clipart image of girl with pom poms)

The song is pretty uplifting, some may say corny but all school songs are meant to display affection for the place you learn so much from in a short period of time of your life particularly if you live many decades.

‘North School’ was/is usually punctuated with a raised fist for both North and School whilst D.N.P.S is good exercise as hands were on Knees for D, Hips for N, Shoulders for P and in the air for S.

The last ‘Deni North the Blue and Gold’ is slower than the first time it’s said, there is more emphasis so it’s more ‘Deni North-the-Blue-and-Gold’

Some people were sneaky to sing their own lyrics with most of the changes stating the opposite to what the song is saying but that is part of the school experience as kids love to change words and find second meanings and all the rest before people have to be careful in what they say.

Cha! Cha! Cha! is probably the best part not (just) because it is the end of the song but because you get to move your bum a little and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Overall the song is one that sticks in the head for a decade or two and in some minds it’s a song that has a life of it’s own as people remember their method of singing it and probably remember much more of their younger lives.

Intereach to launch new service

Mental Health issues is something that people around the world are facing more and more each day from Anxiety to Depression and much more and it is now good to see that those who are under 18 years old will shortly have a new service in Deniliquin to fight it.

Next Wednesday (April 6) sees Intereach launch their new Family Mental Health Support Service and it is called ROAR (Reach Out And Relax).

The ROAR program has been designed to help improve the emotional health and wellbeing of children and youth under 18 years old who are showing the signs of or at risk of developing a mental health issue.

The launch will be attended by  Health Minister (and local Federal member) Sussan Ley with the launch running between Noon and 1pm and there will be light refreshments available for those who attend the launch of this important service that will have great benefits for years to come.

The Intereach Deniliquin Neighbourhood Centre is located on the corner of Napier and Trickett St’s and further details on next week’s launch can be found on the event page on this link.

Why does fast food cost so much?

We all see ads on TV from Dominos and Pizza Hut etc with their cheap Pizzas and wonder why are we paying so much more for locally made and in most cases superior product?

Could it be something as simple as Economics as the further delivery companies have to go to transport Pineapple to local shops etc the more it costs Pizza eaters in order for the shop to make some sort of profit to keep the doors open.

It’s not really fair considering it takes a lot of transporting to provide ingredients to suburban stores around Australia whilst the areas that provide the ingredients have to pay more.

The big businesses/corporations are lucky, The prices of the local McDonalds and Subway outlets are the same as their suburban counterparts but they have the advantage of being part of a corporation that can buy in bulk and spread the ingredients around by the truck load whilst local shops have to be careful with their supplies.

The local shops are burdened with the question of how far low in cost per Pizza can they go without cutting too much into the profit margin and without sacrificing the quality of their product, nobody wants to pay less for a bad pizza and if the pizza is bad then the business would soon close.
