The Deni Pokémon Wrap (14/3/17)

Pokémon Go

Pokémon Go Deniliquin is steady on 179 members and has had no new posts since November 24.

Earlier this month, gamers for a short time were able to catch a Pikachu complete with a party hat on its head, luckily one was caught locally so we can show what was on offer.

Gamers have currently been having fun by changing the name of their Eevee and feeding it candy to get an evolved Pokémon.

  • Rename as Sakura to evolve into Psychic-type Espeon
  • Rename as Tamao to evolve into Dark-type Umbreon
  • Rename as Rainer to evolve into water type Vaporeon
  • Rename as Sparky to evolve into lightning type Jolteon
  • Rename as Pyro to evolve into fire type Flareon

Pokémon Shuffle News

Past and present locals are still making progress on Pokémon Shuffle though it is getting harder to get somewhere.

As you know our two regular gamers Boony and Tiggy are racing each other on the mobile version of the game with Tiggy forging ahead of Boony who is up to Stage 192 whilst Tiggy has moved up one stage to Stage 226 and we will continue to follow the race as it progresses.

Stage 226 has the Psychic Pokémon Mr. Mime as the challenge whilst Stage 192 has the Normal Pokémon Lickilicky.

Tiggy has moved ahead of Boony on the Pokémon count with Tiggy leading with 200 Pokémon caught to Boony’s 198.

We will be back next fortnight with a new edition of The Deni Pokémon Wrap.

Deni Speaks (13/3/17)

In this edition of Deni Speaks, we asked readers three questions on our website and we can now discuss the outcome of the voting.

Questions asked

1.  Do we need national sporting events to come to Deniliquin?
2. Should it be legal to defend your home?
3. Are you happy with Phone companies?

Results

62% of voters believe that national sporting events do need to come to Deniliquin, this proves that Deniliquin has an appetite for events even if some events do cause problems getting to and from places for the duration of the events.

100% of voters believe it should be legal to defend your homes, this question was raised after fears residents anywhere in Australia could be charged if an intruder is injured or killed in the residents home.

75% of voters have said that they are unhappy with phone companies, this is understandable considering the problems we have had with services including Telstra having problems with its 3G network locally from March 12 and into today (March 13).

Conclusion

The willingness for allowing national events to come to Deniliquin could serve as a financial boom for the local area as local businesses have proven they can equal and beat competition from around the nation.

The total support for home defense is logical and we hope to never read in news services that somebody who defended their home has to wait and see if they will be charged with anything.

Phone services have been a pain for locals, it is understandable that Australia has problems because we’re the size of a large chunk of Europe who have billions more to spend than we do but services should always be of high standard regardless.

Thank you for voting and reading Deni Speaks, we will be back with a new edition soon.

It’s Back!!!!!!!!!

Deniliquin History in Photos is back in operation after several months out of commission.

It has come back to life with links from Dayinthelifeofdeniliquin.com (A pretty long website address just like ours) which shows what happens around the area in a day from three separate time periods, 1990, 2001 and 2011.

Having the photos page and the day in the life website are two valuable pages when it comes to preserving history and understanding how things have changed over time from shops to shop owners to how things are transported or made.

Deniliquin History in Photos currently has a total of 4,502 likes and that makes it one of the most popular pages or groups that have to do with the town and we hope it will continue to be a success in the future.

Speaking of history, below is a piece of DHIP history that was taken on January 29 2014 as the page received its 2,710th like, a fitting number.

Google Earth time warp

Deniliquin is a funny place to look at from high above or on the ground when it comes to Google Earth.

The high up view is from October 2015 and there are options to look back at far as 2005 whilst Street View gives users a chance to see parts of the town as it was in 2008 and see places like Go-Lo and Pinky’s Pizza whilst Centrelink is a construction site.

Mitsubishi is still operating, Silly Willy’s can be seen in the spot Harvey Norman expanded to and the block next to Coles is still being used, KFC still had most of its signs still up

If you are really lucky you might see some Street View images that are from 2010 (around End Street to around the High School) and the images are in far better quality too.

But there is one new edition to the map and that is 360 Cities and users get to see the TransmUTE, Peppin Heritage Centre and Information Centre in a 360 view as you can see by the three red dots on the map below.

It would be nice to get some updated images in the near future but in the meantime enjoy a look at the past while you still can.

Bimbella Beef now offers Fruit and Veg

For those who don’t know, Bimbella Beef has added Fruit & Veg to their range of choices and residents will be happy to know the produce is from nearby sources.

Their Seedless Watermelon come from Blighty and as it is seedless there is no need to constantly scoop or spit out seeds.

Their Clingstone Peaches come from Cobram and they also offer Cauliflower which is a popular choice to put on the side of your plate.

The benefit of nearby produce is that it is considered better compared to some places in the world that gets food from afar and hold it for a lengthy period of time killing off freshness, taste and the amount of time you got to use it by.

Deniliquin has been looking for a good Fruit & Veg source outside the Supermarkets for some time and perhaps this is the solution for shoppers who can now get their fix of nutritious meat, get some food for their pets and now get some Fruit & Veg too.

To keep up to date on all the latest specials and more, check out their Facebook page whose link is at the top of this story.
