Picola’s Under 17’s side featured Rovers players John Allitt, Ryan Murray, Ben McCalman, Daniel Kirby, Joab Weir, Jackson Campbell, Josh Flight, Blair Sartore, Jaidyn Caniglia and Nick Hay.

It should also be mentioned that last week Under 14’s Rovers players Ben East and Brock Thomson were last week part of U/14 Picola side.

It is going to be an interesting week next week but until then Rovers Talk hopes all readers enjoy the rest of the weekend and we’ll be back on Thursday with a new Rovers Talk edition.

Rovers Talk (19/5/16)

Last week was the bye for the Rovers and this weekend is a general bye for all sides so everyone gets to put their feet up this weekend.

It must be maddening for a sports mad town like ours when there is a bye for one or all of their sport clubs because there is no sport to participate in, no games their club is participating in to watch and no results from their fellow sides to eagerly await for as the afternoon goes on.

Those who need their sports can always rest easy knowing that there is plenty of sport on TV and if sport on TV doesn’t satisfy then there is live sport or computer game sport to play.

Basketball lovers can travel down to Melbourne on Saturday night and see the Melbourne Tigers play in the SEABL competition or go down and see a AFL match and much more and then come back to Deniliquin ready for Sunday or the working week.

Gamers can play games like the latest Madden, UFC, NHL, WWE, NASCAR or FIFA games or just play a range of games that aren’t backed by a sports league or organization.

The two weeks off must be a double edged sword for the Rovers, it’s good to get a week up on the competition in terms of having two weeks of byes instead of one but a two week gap is a long time between matches but all will be great by the time next week arrives.

It’s going to be great when competition resumes, the Rovers will be playing at home and they will be keen to continue on with their strong pre-bye form by getting wins across the board.

Go Rovers! (even on bye weekends)

Rovers Talk (14/5/16)

Bye, The word bye can be a terrible word because usually it means somebody is going away for a bit or even longer but in the Rovers case bye means it’s their week off because the competition has an odd number of teams.

We can think of ten things that Rovers players and officials could be doing today as they await the continuance of their season after next week because of the general bye is next week so the feet are up again.

1. Family Time
2. Housework
3. Netflix
4. Football or Netball on TV
5. Mowing the lawn
6. Working
7. Partying
8. Doing nothing
9. Bus Trip
10. Homework

All ten events are pretty important though some may say otherwise to some of them, the first one is most likely of the highest importance, two has to be done, three is excellent especially when you’re watching seasons in bulk, four is not unusual, five also has to be done, six is unlucky, seven is considered good but be careful, eight is preferable to some, ninth is something that looks fun and tenth is another thing that has to be done.

There would of been some Rovers action today which the Rovers Bus Trip, unfortunately there was not enough interest for the bus to go down south and drop off the passengers for them to enjoy all the great venues down there before returning safely tonight and so the event has been postponed.

The Rovers Facebook Page now has 1,341 likes which is an increase of likes compared to our previous report and there is a lot of great information pieces on the page from reunion plans to the availability of nice looking Rovers Jackets and the dates of the remaining functions of the season.

We wish everyone a pleasant rest of their Saturday and we look forward to coming up with something for you to read next Thursday.

Go Rovers!

Rovers Talk (12/5/16)

For the past six weeks, DNS has had the pleasure in reporting on the latest from Memorial Park as the Netball and Football teams played their games at home and away.

This week is different, The Rovers have the bye and so there is no Netball or Football analysis to do before the games and no scores to report on after the games but never fear because Rovers Talk always has something to talk about.

Netball

After six games, B Grade is the sole undefeated team amongst the Senior Grades and that is a fantastic achievement by the ladies, B Grade is one and a half wins on top of the ladder at this stage of the season.

C Grade and C Reserve are next up with 5-1 records after their six matches in their competitions, C Grade are running third in their competition and C Reserve are top of the ladder in their competition by four points.

A Grade have a 4-2 record after their six matches and are at this present time comfortably in the final five by one a half wins, their two losses have been by a combined total of eight goals which shows the A Grade side have been in it to win it every game of the season.

In the Juniors, The U/17’s side is currently sitting on top of the ladder in their competition thanks to their undefeated start to the season, The side is 1st when it comes to goals scored and second when it comes to the opposition scoring on them.

The U/15’s side has had it tough at times this season but they finished the six game run with a win to give them two wins from their six matches, whilst some may say 2-4 is not ideal it is however a win behind fifth place which is held by Strathmerton who also have a percentage margin of 17.34% on the Rovers.

The U/13’s side is sitting on top of their ladder at this moment with an undefeated start to the season, The side has a win in hand over second place Blighty ensuring that no matter what happens during the bye, the team will still be on top ready for Round 8.

Football

The Rovers Seniors are sitting second on the ladder with a 4-2 record, the side has picked up wins against Yarroweyah, Jerilderie, Strathmerton and Mathoura with their two losses being against Blighty and Picola United.

The Rovers Reserves are doing well with the side being undefeated after their six matches, Picola United are one win behind the Rovers and can replace the Rovers on top of the ladder providing they win on the weekend due to a superior percentage.

U/17’s enjoyed the perfect start to the season and like the Reserves are rewarded with being on top of the ladder, Second on the ladder Berrigan is a win behind but has played only five games and can get ahead of the Rovers should they win on the weekend due to superior percentage.

U/14’s are running third on the ladder with a 4-2 record and is one of three teams sitting on 16 competition points, the Rovers may drop to 4th after this weekends matches but should drop no further with Blighty in 5th place needing to both win and boost their percentage by just over 120% to pass the Rovers.

Thoughts

In many of the competitions, the competition is fierce so nothing can be taken for granted but the Rovers have done well so far this season and deserve their weekend off.

It will be interesting to see where the Rovers end up as the teams catch up to the amount of games the Rovers has played as the complexion of the season becomes clearer for we are getting closer to everyone playing each other once this season.

Rovers Talk will be back on Saturday as usual to talk about sport in some way, shape or form.

Go Rovers!

Thoughts

A Grade have got their two wins in a row for the first time this season and will no doubt come back from the bye aiming to make it three straight.

B Grade can relax knowing they’ve had an excellent start to the season and fans will no doubt be interested to see what happens after the bye.

C Grade are back on the winners list and are running 5-1 going into the bye next week, C Grade will no doubt be eager to make it two in a row when Rovers games resume in Round 8.

C Reserve are now 5-1 which is a solid record going into the bye next week, C Reserve are the second hottest form side of all the senior Rovers teams.

Junior teams have had a good season so far with their Under 17’s and Under 13’s sides still enjoying an undefeated start to the season.

The Under 15’s will be feeling good after snaring their second win of the season and improving to 2-4.

On the Football side, The Rovers Seniors have won three straight and are no doubt feeling confident with every game they play.

The Reserves must really wish the bye isn’t next week but it is but there is no doubt they’ll be raring to pick up from where they left off when they return in Round 8.

The Under 17’s must also wish they haven’t got the bye too but this bye could really help the young side recover well and do it all again from Round 8.

The Under 14’s Football side are back on the winners list and have a strong 4-2 record going into the bye.

Overall it was the perfect day for the Rovers as all Football and Netball sides returned home with wins and there is nothing sweeter than returning from an away game with a win.

May the Rovers enjoy their great day and their week off, Rovers Talk will be running as usual next week with something yet to be determined so you will still get a Rovers fix of some kind even on the week off.

Go Rovers!
