Crime Rising

November 4 2017

There are two growing problems in Deniliquin at this present time and they are thefts and vandalism.

Readers are almost certain to see every day on social media a report of somebody having items stolen from their yard, their car(s) or their home.

Residents are mulling over what actions to take, some choose to post what has happened to them on social media in the chance the wrongdoer sees it and comes forward and others choose police action in the hopes the wrongdoer is caught and is brought to justice.

Both options do work and sometimes they don’t, people can ignore the posts and keep doing what they’re doing taking the chance nothing will come of it and on the other hand there is a lack of faith in the justice system which makes people wonder why go through all the hassle of police investigation, court appearance etc only to see a people get a fine, suspended sentence or something light.

We urge fellow residents to please make sure their belongings are secure by keeping everything not in use locked up, keep your cars locked and if possible parked in sight of a security camera, Ute owners are encouraged to not leave anything in their tray as well.

Vandalism is rising as well, we’ve seen multiple reports of graffiti and property damage, some cases have seen the vandals caught due to eyewitnesses or security cameras catching them in the act.

Again people are dealing with it in various ways from reporting it on social media or going to the Police and we hope whatever victims do, they get the best results.

We hope this rising crime wave comes to an end soon and people will no longer worry if it will be their property next to have something missing.

World Sandwich Day – November 3

November 3 2017

World Sandwich Day is on this Friday (November 3) and customers at our local Subway have a chance to participate.

All customers have to do is go in and purchase a Sub, Wrap or Salad and they will receive a second one of equal or lesser value so you can eat one sub/wrap/salad and save the other one for later or give it to a friend.

But that’s not all, every purchase means that Subway will donate on your behalf a meal to Foodbank Australia and 100% of the proceeds raised by Subway in Australia stays in Australia.

Foodbank Australia provided enough food to make 60 million meals last year and they have already provided 495 Million meals to Australians since their inception.

Foodbank Australia started in NSW back in 1992 and have grown to have 100 employees and over 3,000 volunteers and serve everyone from charities to schools.

Subway Deniliquin hopes that many locals will take up this offer in order to help assist those who need food the most.

Morning Cold Snap – October 30 2017

October 30 2017

Deniliquin residents and tourists who enjoyed a warm day yesterday were surprised by a massive temperature drop today.

The morning reached a peak of 16.2 degrees according to data from the Airport at 10:40am and by 11am the temperatures dropped 5.4 degrees and by 11:20am it was just 8.5 degrees.

Whilst 8.5 degrees is cold, the winds and other conditions made it feel like a very not spring like 4.0 degrees.

This is becomes winds of up to 57km/h, gusts of up to 76km/h and 2mm of rain by 11:50am were responsible for the temperature drop and the colder feeling.

The day improved to reach 16.6 degrees by 4pm but the day could of been better as temperatures were predicted to have been between 19 and 21 degrees.

Cold mornings are expected for the next week with minimums of four degrees for both Saturday and Sunday morning whilst on the maximum temperature side Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be tops with 23 degrees each.
