Nurses campaign continues on

The campaign to defeat the Murrumbidgee Local Health District restructuring proposal continues after a very successful Friday to Sunday period in which Deniliquin was coloured blue and hundreds of signatures were gathered in support of the local Nurses.

A silent ‘Respect Our Community’ site is now operational at 410 Charlotte Street, details can be found by visiting the event page here, the silent protest site was established p so people can see the townspeople’s unhappiness at the restructuring proposal without disrupting what happens at the hospital.

Residents who didn’t get to sign the petition on Friday and the weekend and still want to do so still have an opportunity to sign the petition until March  4 at the following locations;

Deniliquin Florist
Central IGA
Bakers Delight
Soul Pattinson Pharmacy
Ochre Medical Centre (Deniliquin Medical Centre)
Dr Magee’s surgery

Residents are still encouraged to keep colouring Deniliquin Blue so if you still want to show your support by putting something Blue outside your home or business then you are more than welcome to do so.

DNS will continue to report on the situation as it further unfolds.

Residents mark Rare Disease Day

Unknown to the vast majority of the world, the last day of each February is declared Rare Disease Day, Rare Disease Day is a day when awareness is given to diseases and conditions that are usually never given the spotlight.

Readers are probably wondering what does Rare Disease Day got to do with Deniliquin? Residents do have rare diseases and conditions for example Essential Thrombocythemia and Budd Chiari Syndrome and researchers around the world are working hard at combating these diseases and conditions that affect Platelet levels in a a person’s Blood and the Liver respectively.

Right now, Deniliquin is battling to defeat the not good for Deniliquin Hospital restructuring of the Murrumbidgee Local Health District and the two events can be linked for the restructuring would affect those who have rare diseases and conditions for they require frequent care from the Nurses at Deniliquin Hospital and a restructuring would affect that level of care.

Keep the colour Blue flying around town Deniliquin residents, look up some rare diseases and conditions for better understanding or maybe even donate a couple of dollars to a foundation and make this years Rare Disease Day a very special and informative one.

Deniliquin turns Blue

Deniliquin turned Blue today as residents showed their support for their local Nurses and protest against the proposed changes that will affect Deniliquin Hospital.

There were people wearing Blue clothing, there was people and letterboxes with Blue ribbons, there were Blue balloons on fences, Blue ribbons on signs even a ribbon was spotted around Colin too.

The colour support was not the only aspect of the day as several residents held up signs in support of the Nurses and a petition was also being signed by residents throughout the day.

Enthusiasm and support for today has been building all week with numerous Facebook posts being made and demand was so high for Blue ribbon that supplies had to be brought in from other towns to satisfy demand.

The town will remain Blue for some time to come as all good things take time to be done but it is hoped that the change the town seeks will happen sooner rather than later.

Photos of all the action taken by residents and organisers can be seen at ‘Colour Deni Blue‘ and DNS will continue to report on the fate of the proposed changes to the Murrumbidgee Local Health District as it comes to hand.

Wear Blue for Nurses

A proposed restructure of the Murrumbidgee Local Health District is expected to result in community altering changes to the staff structure of Deniliquin Hospital.

The proposal seeks to change the status of two nurse unit manager positions, the downgrading of their roles could have a negative effect on the well being of staff who will have to do more to cover the downgraded roles therefore increasing levels of fatigue and stress.

As staff deal with increased stress and fatigue, the level of patient care could fall as the staff are stretched that little bit further to cover the medical needs of patients every day.

In response to this proposal, the residents of Deniliquin have been encouraged to wear blue on Friday February 26.

Deniliquin is a town where the colour blue is easy to obtain for wearers of the colour blue can be seen in schools, clubs, the local gym and other locations throughout town making the task of turning the town blue a task not out of reach.

Residents also have the option to receive a free ribbon from the Cressy Street Kiosk and at around 11am WIN News will be there as well to file a report on the situation.

So wear blue Deniliquin residents and show that you feel blue about the proposed changes.
