14mm more for Deniliquin

Deniliquin’s month of May has been spectacular rainfall wise with a total of 77mm having fallen in town since the start of the month.

14mm of the 77mm fell between 9am Wednesday and 9am Thursday and rain is expected to fall again between 11am and 2pm today before clearing up all the way until 5pm Friday with rain starting again in one form or another until early Saturday morning.

Rainfall totals for May could end up somewhere in the 80’s and that is nothing short of a good thing for the town,  the average rainfall till May is 132.3mm and we got 139.8mm so it will be interesting to see if ground is made on the average to June or even passing the June total.

The good news for the year so far is that Deniliquin has now received 21.8mm more than this time last year so that must give farmers great joy and potentially even more joy now the word from the Bureau of Meteorology is that El Nino is over.

DNS will continue to update readers on the rainfall totals as it comes in.

Will the Rain tumble down?

The month of May has already been a post 1998 record for rainfall in Deniliquin and with rain expected to fall between today and Saturday, there is a chance the average yearly rainfall up to this time of year will be matched or bettered.

10 to 20mm is expected to fall today, less an 1mm tomorrow, 5 to 10mm on Friday and less than one on Saturday according to Weatherzone though it appears their rainfall measuring is not midnight to midnight so these amounts are likely to overlap into other days.

Google is showing showers and then rain from about 3pm today and it will carry through to 10am when it becomes light and then showers until 3pm-4pm before clearing, Rain will then return around 5pm on Friday with the rain and showers expected to end around 11am on Saturday.

Temperatures will be the following

Today – 17 with minimum of 9
Thursday – 14 with minimum of 4
Friday – 16 with minimum of 7
Saturday – 14 with minimum of 4

DNS will continue to report on the weather as further information comes to hand.

SEABL player picks Deniliquin as favourite

Every week fans of the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) get to see and hear on YouTube what players from various teams such as the Geelong Supercats, Melbourne Tigers, Bendigo Braves and more like from food to locations.

This weeks edition titled ‘Favourite place in Australia’ and it caught DNS’s attention because the segment had one Bendigo Braves player name Deniliquin as his favourite place in Australia.

We compliment the Bendigo Braves player in his great taste of location and we hope that Deniliquin continues to be his favourite place in this great country of ours well into the future.

Pay a little more to help way more

Milk prices have been plunging as the major supermarkets fight for consumers money by lowering their home brands to levels never before seen, the side effect of this is that as the price goes down, the money that goes to Dairy Farmers goes down too and it makes producing and selling milk harder to financially sustain and eventually they have to give it up.

IGA in Deniliquin has stocked up on local milk and milk products and ensuring that every purchase made on brands made by Parmalat, Devondale Murray-Goulburn and other local producers and makers does help a dairy farmer out for they give the Dairy Farmers more money than what the major Supermarkets give to those who produce their lower priced milk and milk product.

Parmalat make products under brands such as Pauls, Oak, Vaalia and Ice Break whilst Devondale Murray-Goulburn makes products under the brands Devondale, Liddells and Table Cove.

Devondale Murray-Goulburn has come under fire recently for lowering the price of a kilo of milk solids between 60 cents and 75 cents, this price cut severely impacts the bottom line of Dairy Farmers whose profit margins are close to negative.

A global downturn in prices, recent drought and the downturn of Devondale Murray-Goulburn’s stock price are blamed for the cut in their milk solids price.

IGA in Deniliquin has made it easier for shoppers by displaying signs throughout the store advising shoppers of the current crisis and where products are made and where the supply is from.

It is true that you may have to spend extra on the brands that support local producers compared to what you pay for home brands but the benefits of the purchase far outweigh the negatives of having to pay a little more.

So please consider buying Parmalat, Murray-Goulburn and other non home brand products on your next shop from IGA and help people do what they love to do for the people across Australia.
