The 2015 to 2016 difference

Brown Park in 2015 was an alright place, you got to see Ducks and Pelicans, See some Cola cans scattered around and wonder about what was on that small island.

Below are some pictures of what it looked like early last year around the time of the Deni Show.

Then there was a vision to transform it and it seemed a tough ask they had to demolish a lot of trees, change the island, drain the water, remove what was on the floor (cans, bottles, Yabbie nets etc.) and then make a new depth and then fill it back up and make it really nice.

Thanks once again to the efforts of Daniel Clark, we can show you what it looks like today and it’s a big difference.

It looks absolutely spectacular now and there is no doubt that locals and visitors enjoy the sights that are presented and with trees yet to grow to their full height, there is no doubt things will look even better in the future.

Rubbish getting out of control

There are reports once again that rubbish is appearing in large amounts against the fences of Deniliquin Plaza and the yards and nature strips of residents along Henry Street and other streets close by.

As reported in 2014 and 2015, some shoppers are leaving places like Deniliquin Plaza with their purchases, consume the purchases moments down the road and throwing the rubbish wherever they are standing at the time the product is consumed.

As you will see in the pictures taken today by Dan Clark, rubbish lines both sides of the fence that is near The Reject Shop and it continues on to the next property and makes it’s way around the corner and continues on past the rail track.

According to Google Earth, the distance between the Bins in the Plaza and the fence is about 50 metres which isn’t a whole lot of time, one idea is to put a bin on the corner of Henry and Napier Street which is 150m from the fence opening as an encouragement for people to hold on to their rubbish until the get to that point.

This then leaves the question of what to do about Henry Street where rubbish is found dumped along, one suggestion is to place a bin every 100 or so metres to try and limit the amount dumped or encourage somebody to pick a piece up and bin it.

A petition made in 2015 has been relaunched this year with hopes it gathers enough signatures to force the ERC to take action and ensure a cleaner town, signatures can be added at this website.

Rubbish dumping is a problem that affects every town and city in the world but we cannot allow this to keep happening, do we really want to live in a world where a walk down the streets is a trek through bottles and chip packets?

Pokémon Go stays strong in Deni

Some media outlets have said that Pokémon Go has reached its peak but the game is going strong in Deniliquin with ‘Pokémon Go Deniliquin’ boasting 144 members.

The group is mighty helpful with reports that Dratini was spotted outside Westpac, Ninetails was around the RSL Club, Golem was spotted at Rocket Park and Pikachu is reportedly around the RSL Park and behind The Exchange.

Pokémon Go has changed the world for the better in terms of exercise and social interaction though it remains to be seen how long interest in the game will last once all the buzz dissipates and the serious gamers stick around to complete the game.

Below is an example of the Pokémon that can be caught in Deniliquin and Shepparton, DNS continues to wish all players the best and remind them to please watch where they are walking at all times.

HCF’s closure will hurt locals

HCF’s decision to close the Deniliquin branch from August 11 has not been a popular decision to many locals and those who travel into town for the customer service the branch provides.

It is said that the closure is because people around Australia are apparently putting in claims online or via post and have no need to go into the HCF branch and when people don’t go to the branches then the branches are considered unsustainable and must close and unfortunately Deniliquin’s branch is considered unsustainable.

This closure will be a major disadvantage for some as they may have trouble with filling in claim forms and/or are not computer savvy to do it online and need expert help and the personal touch to ensure that their forms are done correctly.

The staff at HCF in Deniliquin are considered by many to be top class and many are feeling sad that they also lose out despite HCF offering alternatives for the staff (whatever that means, it’s probably not a good alternative).

Supporters of keeping HCF in Deniliquin are being urged to use the contact form online and write down their concerns, so far the replies have been the stock standard business reply but it is hoped that if HCF get messages of the same kind it would force a different kind of response.

An alternative to writing in is by calling them on 13 13 34 between 8am and 8pm (AEST) Monday to Friday and between 9am and 5pm (AEST) on the weekends, please make all calls civil and feel free to share the results of the call with other supporters.

Another option is that Eric Sim Pharmacy has a petition that residents can sign in support of lobbying to keep HCF in Deniliquin.

It is ironic that HCF has the slogan ‘Get More With HCF’ for the closure of the branch means that locals will be getting less than what they had before with HCF.
