The Rain Goes On

The Edward River is continuing to make its way towards 5.7m and the rain is still hanging around as we get closer to the Ute Muster.

The river is now high enough (5.24pm at 1pm 20/9/16) that you can no longer see the boat ramp, a large portion of stairs along the river and the end of the walkway at the Island Sanctuary will deliver you straight into water plus more.

The rain makes us wonder that if it continues on its merry way to Muster time, Does the Muster get dubbed something like ‘Musterstock’ or ‘Utestock’ because of the fact rain and music festivals/events with music seem to go hand in hand (Most Woodstocks for example).

76.4mm of rain has fallen in Deniliquin so far this month and a potential 40mm could fall in the next six days, The rain so far has seen the September 1998 record of 72mm broken.

This weeks rainfall will see the 400th millimetre of rain to fall this year which is massive when remembering that the yearly average to September is a grand total of 259.3mm.

To try and ease the annoyance of all the rain that’s fallen in the last month, DNS presents present to you a new playlist of music videos containing the word ‘Rain’ and this list spans across several decades and genres.

Dragon  – Rain
Selena Gomez & The Scene – A Year Without Rain
Gene Kelly – Singing In The Rain
Adele – Set Fire To The Rain
Guns N Roses – November Rain
Jay & The Americans – Walkin’ In The Rain
Bruno Mars – It Will Rain
John Fogerty – Have you ever seen the rain?
John Fogerty – Who’ll stop the Rain?
Mariah Carey – Through The Rain
New Edition – Can You Stand The Rain
Luke Bryan – Rain Is A Good Thing
Eurythmics – Here Comes The Rain Again
Phil Collins – I Wish It Would Rain Down
A-Ha – Crying in the Rain
Creed – Rain

There are so many more songs that have ‘Rain’ in the title, Blind Melon’s ‘No Rain‘ and Belinda Carlisle’s ‘Summer Rain‘  are two examples but with any luck some of the above may be perfect to unwind to.

Hopefully the rain will soon back off and people can enjoy a couple of days or weeks of beautiful spring weather because at the moment its nothing but a major dampener.

Minor Flooding Expected

An alert has been issued for the Edward River with Deniliquin expected to encounter minor flooding this weekend.

The water is rising steadily with the level increasing by a centimetre every 45 to 75 minutes and will soon pass the 4.29m level that was set last month.

The water level is expected to get as high as 5.5m which is 90cm higher than what is classified as minor flooding.

Stephens Weir is expected to record moderate flood levels and with the possibility of further rainfall, Levels may be higher than anticipated for this weekend.

Thankfully this warning has been issued with enough time for those near the river to prepare for what comes their way.

As always we hope that the 4.6m water mark is not passed but if it does we hope the damage that the waters will cause will be minimal, We urge all our readers to be careful and not take any risks on the roads should they become flooded at any time.

Our thoughts are also with those throughout NSW and Victoria who are or will be experiencing a similar situation in the coming days.

The rain continues for Deni

The so far rainy 2016 for Deniliquin continues with 17mm falling between 9am Monday and 9am today and there is another 10 to 20 millimetres forecasted for the next 24 hours.

2016 has already had over 100 millimetres more rain than this time last year and it looks set to continue on it’s merry way upwards.

Recent rain has caused the Edward River to rise over a metre in just four days, The most recent data has the river at 3.82m (was 2.6m on September 9) and rising but no flood warnings have been issued at this time.

The river has to be at 4.6m in order for it to be classified as minor flooding but as we already know it doesn’t have to be that for the beach and other low lying areas to go under.

DNS will keep you updated on the river height as soon as it comes to hand.

Local stomachs still rumble for KFC

The call for KFC to return to Deniliquin is once again making it’s way across the internet.

Deniliquin loves KFC, It misses KFC and it has ever since the store closed in 2010.

The biggest proof of the desire is that one local declared his belief that KFC be brought back and over 50 people liked the post and it continues to this point of time (Aug 30).

How does Deniliquin still have a desire for KFC after so long? It’s simple because people travel over the Murray to get their KFC fix and when that’s around 45 minutes to go one way that is pure and simple dedication to satisfying the stomachs of one or many.

Of course many questions would have to be asked such as can be KFC be viable? Where would they put it and many more questions but if little stores can exist in shopping centres then one can easily make it in Deniliquin.

Echuca on the other hand are probably hoping KFC does not return to town so Deniliquin residents keep travelling on down, do some shopping and perhaps see a Movie before getting their Chicken and going on home.

Our advice fellow KFC eaters, Get somebody to make a nice change.org petition addressed to KFC and Edward River Council and then spread it around social media and see what you get.
