TAFE and Vinnies Outreach combine for good of humanity

Certificate One in Access to Work and Training are currently spending Wednesday’s at Vinnies Outreach where the class does a mixture of lesson and project making.

One project has been the growing an maintaining a garden, the aim of this garden is to grow herbs and sell them at markets with a 50/50 split in money expected to be the end result.

The class has a second garden currently operational at TAFE which grows Tomatoes and Capsicum as well as flowers, the food generated by this garden is expected to end up at the TAFE canteen where it will go into the food that students eat every day.

Another project is the making of Jewelry, it is unknown at this time if the Jewelry will be sold along with the herbs although it is considered to be a good idea for it could bring in more customers.

A third potential project is wood work with images of Kangaroos hammered into the wood, this project may not go beyond the personal stage but viewings of the first piece has been well received.

Whatever happens, this project could bring success beyond all expectations leading to a bigger future.

Thoughts to the Rovers

This weekend. the Deniliquin Rovers A Grade Netballers will be taking to the court in an attempt to do what no A Grade Rovers side has done before, win the premiership.

‘Win the Premiership’ those three words must weigh a ton on each of the players shoulders but the team should not feel overwhelmed by the Grand Final but instead embrace it for all it’s worth, take in the emotions from everyone around you and feel good about yourself, it’s your stage and you got a show to perform.

In 1959, Melbourne Demons coach Norm Smith was talking to his players and he said to star player Hassa Mann ‘Son, you may never, ever, get the opportunity to play in another Grand Final, Don’t blow it’.

Those words were words of empowerment to Hassa Mann because he did not want to let the other 17 players on the team down, he wanted to make the best of his opportunity and he did because Melbourne won that flag and when Melbourne made the next Grand Final, Norm Smith said the same words and they won again and Hassa Mann took those words to the team he coached and they won.

  2. Embrace all the emotions around you
  3. Show what you can do on the big stage
  4. Don’t get cocky and/or selfish
  5. Trust in your team
  6. Play for those around you
  7. Be Humble in Victory, Be Gracious in Defeat

All this was learned from a book called ‘The Red Fox’ a biography on Norm Smith, Norm Smith was a man who won ten premierships with four coming as a player and six coming as a coach and so his thoughts and recollections by those who played under him make the book an inspiring source of information.

The mess at Eli Brown Park

The mass of rubbish in the waters of Brown Park is now obvious to residents thanks to the lowering of water levels.

An assortment of rubbish from Cola cans to wrappers were spotted in both the mud and the water, Council is currently doing work on the lake but whether that work extends to taking the rubbish out before they refill the lake is unknown at this time despite the removal being the logical choice.

DNS hopes that the logical action will take place in the near future which will lead to cleaner water and a cleaner image for the town.

Weekend rains but rubbish still remains

Deniliquin’s lawns and farms were well watered by the weekend’s rain, a result that no doubt pleases gardeners and farmers alike although this recent rain will increase the amount of weeds that creep into the gardens around town.

On the rubbish front, there is still no signs of rubbish being cleared from areas around town which is leading DNS to the conclusion that Deniliquin’s residents are really lazy people when it comes to managing their rubbish.

Fishing area beginning at Brown Park?

Brown Park has been taped off and the water is being steadily drained out of the lake that occupies half of the park.

This could be the beginning of the plan to make the waters of Brown Park a place for fish to be bred or caught by those who seek a little light recreational fishing not far from the heart of town.

Already several items of rubbish and a Yabbee net has been recovered from the receding waters and there is potential for much more to be buried in the thick mud of the lake.

DNS will continue to watch and report on the action at Browns Park from it’s vantage point of K Block at Deniliquin TAFE which overlooks Brown Park.
