Air plan clipped

Par Avion has pulled out of establishing a Deniliquin to Melbourne and vice versa air service after it’s Griffith to Melbourne service endured a fall in passenger numbers.

It was estimated that a flight from Melbourne to Deniliquin and vice versa would take an hour each way which is one of the benefits for air travel but whether it be eagerly taken up by residents is the question on the minds of people all around town.

It is no secret that some residents prefer the current bus service or the revival of the rail service than an air service but Council appears to believe that an air service is the viable option.

Rail and Bus may take longer for travelers but it is undeniably true that it costs a lot less, Par Avion’s plan was for $149 and $199 levels whilst a bus is around five times lower in cost although it takes an additional three hours travel time.

Is Deniliquin big enough and important enough for an air service? Could such a service be billed as the gateway to the plains (no pun intended)? Could somebody find rail an attractive proposition? Could more buses be traveling the roads of Victoria and Southern NSW?

There’s so many questions to answer and it is hoped by many that Council doesn’t take forever finding out those answers and then acting on them.

Festival Return?

It has been reported around town that a festival is back on the cards for Deniliquin in the near future.

With the Ute Muster site considered too large and too far away, the Waring Gardens has taken the lead as the site of choice for whatever will come in the future.

The Waring Gardens does not sound very practical for it cannot hold many people, also there is the large body of water there too, there’s also the question of where everyone will park whilst noise should not be a problem for residences are not that close to the site.

Despite the mass of sport played around winter time, perhaps the following places could be looked at for their space and of course being around town making it easier for people to get to.

– Memorial Park
– Deniliquin Oval
– Rotary Park
– Edward River Oval

If an event comes in 2017 there would be time to negotiate with those who use the grounds to play away games on the weekend in question.

Major problems with the above suggestions could be the lack of amenities and the build up of traffic and parked cars

Whatever happens, townspeople hope that any event will stay in Deniliquin for longer than a year or two for building back up after the demise of a festival is getting and harder to do.

Man allegedly caught with Child Porn

A 22 year old man has been arrested after being allegedly found to have in his possession Child Pornography.

The investigation that led to the man’s arrest was sparked after a mobile phone was handed in to Green Valley Police Station in November last year, from there Police methodically built a case to effect an arrest.

After a search, Police found and taken into evidence two mobile phones and a laptop all of which allegedly contain Child Porn.

He was charged with ‘produce, disseminate or possess child abuse material’ and is now out on bail.

This news has been greeted with feelings of revulsion and anger for Child Pornography is  considered to be one of the worst crimes a human can commit.

The arrest of the 22 year old raises the question if it is a one person crime in town or could there be something heinous going on in houses across the quiet streets of Deniliquin.

The heroine of former Working Dogs

The majority of the people on Earth love Dogs, they are most friendly and extremely loyal animals who always bring comfort to their human family members.

Well known local resident Peri Chappell takes her love for dogs very seriously as she is one half (Jennie is the other) of the founding members of ‘Herd2homes’ a group that takes in working breeds when they are not needed and/or wanted by their owners.

Herd2homes is very popular with over 10,000 people liking their Facebook page, this is outstanding considering that Deniliquin is a couple of thousand people below that number.

Peri and Jennie have a large number of fantastic volunteers who help them look after the Dogs who have been surrendered to Herd2homes until they are found new homes, without these volunteers Herd2homes wouldn’t be what it is today.

To find out more visit Herd2homes.com.au as well as visiting their Facebook page for regularly updated information from Dogs that are new to their care, Dogs that have moved on from their care and much more.

DNS will continue to report on how things are for Herd2homes as news comes to hand.
