102.5 picked up in Numeralla

September 24 2017

A couple of months ago, we reported that a radio listener in Numerella could pick up 2QN on his radio.

Last week, a new upload was posted this time posting the results of what happens when trying to pick up 102.5 using aircraft scatter.

Aircraft Scatter was discovered in 1930 but according to the above link it did not take off until the 1980’s and is still largely unknown to people today.

Atmospheric Skip is the most known signal extender as people hundreds if not thousands of kilometres away can pick up faint signals from stations.

We’re no experts on Aircraft Scatter but it appears that signals bounce off aircraft that are overhead therefore extending the range of radio as they are high speed repeaters but the downside is that it may only last seconds or minutes.

Enjoy the below example of 102.5 being picked up from Numerella and we will continue to watch for further radio examples.

Tower ruins Preliminary Final coverage

September 22 2017

Adelaide played Geelong in the Preliminary Final tonight and anticipation was in the air, would Patrick Dangerfield fire up against his old team? would Eddie Betts kick a bag? would it be a great clash?

Unfortunately for Deniliquin and the Southern Riverina, a transmission tower had other ideas and football became unwatchable in match one of the second biggest weekend of the AFL season.

Those who were watching Foxtel, Netflix etc or other channels were wondering what was going on when reports started coming on Facebook that 7/Prime was acting up.

Phones were ringing off the hook as those staying at our local establishments wanted to know from hotel staff what the problem was, tips were going across the internet on how to tune in via the internet and DNS briefly became sportscasters in text.

The game itself wasn’t much to write home about, Adelaide blew Geelong out of the water in the first quarter thanks to Eddie Betts and Tom Lynch kicking two apiece and they went on with the job to win 21.10 – 136 to 10.15 – 75

On the bright side of things, well let’s not say our thought in text just in case it happens.

Council gets to work

September 22 2017

As expected, Norm Brennan was yesterday elected to be the first Mayor of the Edward River Council.

The pick for Deputy Mayor was also very logical for Pat Fogarty was rewarded for coming second in the polling.

It will be interesting to see how the ERC will function, a lot of the talk during the election campaign was about finances and how good people were with money but residents mainly want to see action and no posturing, self promotion or grandstanding by Councillors.

The people want pothole free roads, Australia Day to never move from January 26, Kerbside Recycling to become reality, Rates frozen or lowered and they must be value for money and people want the ERC to make some sort of deal with Deniliquin Plaza to install more cameras and lower or capture vehicle collisions.

There are many more desires but those are some of the wants and needs told to us through our polls and post comments.

The first ordinary meeting has been set for 9am on Thursday the 19th of October at Council Chambers (aka 180 Cressy Street).

We wish the ERC the best of luck and we will continue to record how they do as we get closer to 2020.

Visit Deni’s September Video

September 18 2017

Visit Deni released their new 30 second video on YouTube earlier this month and it is one that will entice families and adventurers to consider coming to town.

The weather cooperated with the film makers as clear skies enabled the area to be fully shown off, the Edward River is the star of the video as people are seen boating, paddling and fishing.

The Edward does have a wide variety of fish for fishers to try and catch ensuring days of action.

At the end of the video clip, there is a website for prospective tourists to check out and the below locations are offering anyone who books three nights accommodation for February and March 2018 will get the third night free.

Centrepoint Hotel
McLean Beach Holiday Park
Pioneer Tourist Park
Big4 Deniliquin
Settlement Motor Inn
Riverview Motel
