Wait for Target almost over

March 22 2017

Target reopens in Deniliquin tomorrow after 239 days out of action.

Target Deniliquin was closed on July 27 last year after a fire severely damaged a sizable portion of the store at around 6am that morning.

Local company Liefting Constructions was assigned the task of rebuilding the shop and they have done a masterful job of getting the store re-built and ready for locals to shop and employees to serve them.

Estimates over time put Target Deniliquin’s reopening at April this year which was later revised up to March 30 and finally March 23 putting the builders and Target in the running to match Montgomery Scott when it comes to estimates.

Many if not all locals are happy that Target is coming back, it may seem strange to some readers that people are happy about a department store but not only does Target offer a lot of items for townspeople to buy but it also gives employment to many locals and that is a precious commodity in any community.

Target Deniliquin is currently listed as open at the following times

Thursday 8am to 7pm
Friday 8am to 7pm
Saturday 8am to 6pm
Sunday 9am to 6pm

DNS wishes Target Deniliquin and its employees a great reopening tomorrow and a bright future ahead.

DNS supports Anti-Bullying groups

Last Friday, people around Australia marked ‘National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence’.

Anti-Bullying is something we really believe in as bullying is something that happens in Schools, Workplaces and Homes every day right around the country and the world.

People are bullied over their Race, Religion, Sexual Orientation, Body Weight, Sizes of Body Parts, Clothing Style, Talking Style, IQ Levels, Job Status, Health, Wealth or lack of Wealth and much more.

These days people are bullied in person, on the phone, via Text Message, Chat Rooms, Memes, Videos, Audio and more making it a 24/7 problem.

Those who are bullied lose confidence in themselves and lose faith in people around them, this can lead to isolation, a downturn in health, depression, anxiety and in growing numbers suicide as the torment overruns the desire to stay alive and enjoy the pleasures that life can bring.

For more information visit sites like ‘Bullying. No Way!’ and ‘Stand for the Silent’, two great websites from both Australia and the United States of America that educate and help those who may be bullied or are bullying.

‘Bullying. No Way!’ even has apps that give tips, advice and more for kids to use at anytime.

DNS hopes that all readers respect each other no matter who they are and what they do in life.

The Deni Pokémon Wrap (14/3/17)

Pokémon Go Deniliquin is steady on 179 members and has had no new posts since November 24.

Pokémon Shuffle News

Past and present locals are still making progress on Pokémon Shuffle though it is getting harder to get somewhere.

As you know our two regular gamers Boony and Tiggy are racing each other on the mobile version of the game with Tiggy forging ahead of Boony who is up to Stage 192 whilst Tiggy has moved up one stage to Stage 226 and we will continue to follow the race as it progresses.

Stage 226 has the Psychic Pokémon Mr. Mime as the challenge whilst Stage 192 has the Normal Pokémon Lickilicky.

Tiggy has moved ahead of Boony on the Pokémon count with Tiggy leading with 200 Pokémon caught to Boony’s 198.

We will be back next fortnight with a new edition of The Deni Pokémon Wrap.

It’s Back!!!!!!!!!

Deniliquin History in Photos is back in operation after several months out of commission.

It has come back to life with links from Dayinthelifeofdeniliquin.com (A pretty long website address just like ours) which shows what happens around the area in a day from three separate time periods, 1990, 2001 and 2011.

Having the photos page and the day in the life website are two valuable pages when it comes to preserving history and understanding how things have changed over time from shops to shop owners to how things are transported or made.

Deniliquin History in Photos currently has a total of 4,502 likes and that makes it one of the most popular pages or groups that have to do with the town and we hope it will continue to be a success in the future.

Speaking of history, below is a piece of DHIP history that was taken on January 29 2014 as the page received its 2,710th like, a fitting number.

Google Earth time warp

Deniliquin is a funny place to look at from high above or on the ground when it comes to Google Earth.

The high up view is from October 2015 and there are options to look back at far as 2005 whilst Street View gives users a chance to see parts of the town as it was in 2008 and see places like Go-Lo and Pinky’s Pizza whilst Centrelink is a construction site.

Mitsubishi is still operating, Silly Willy’s can be seen in the spot Harvey Norman expanded to and the block next to Coles is still being used, KFC still had most of its signs still up

If you are really lucky you might see some Street View images that are from 2010 (around End Street to around the High School) and the images are in far better quality too.

But there is one new edition to the map and that is 360 Cities and users get to see the TransmUTE, Peppin Heritage Centre and Information Centre in a 360 view as you can see by the three red dots on the map below.

It would be nice to get some updated images in the near future but in the meantime enjoy a look at the past while you still can.
