Get to know the CWA

It’s a little know fact that CWA (Country Womens Association) Boobook Deniliquin does have a page on Facebook, it currently has 78 likes and has recently been updated with activity after a couple of quiet years.

It is great to know and see that the CWA building has been getting a new coat or two of paint, it’s always been a place of fascination to some as it quietly sits in the corner of it’s street surrounded by the Waring Gardens and so it’s paint job would make it stand out among all the plants and trees nearby.

Coming up on April 23 is the ‘Travelling Mini Suitcase and Quilt Show’ where you can see what is offer, meet Lyn Rose who is the President and perhaps join the CWA who are looking for members as seen by the ‘Keep Calm and Join the CWA’ sign on their page.

So if you have ever been interested in joining the CWA visit their page and give it a ‘like’ today.

Three days to go

There is just three days to go before the World’s Greatest Shave Cake Stall is running at the Cressy Street Kiosk, the Cake Stall will be running from 8:30am to 11am on Saturday March 19 and lots of tasty food will be on offer to purchase all in the name of a great cause.

As it currently stands on the Facebook event page, 37 people will be attending and 41 people are interested but these numbers will be no doubt much larger as the majority of the town will pass by the Kiosk on the day, readers can visit the event page and express their interest by clicking on the above link.

An estimated 3200 Australians are diagnosed with Leukaemia every year (8 per day) and so fundraising is essential to understanding and combating this devastating form of cancer.

DNS hopes that the town will be mighty hungry and buy as many of the available treats as possible in support of the World’s Greatest Shave that supports the Leukaemia Foundation.

Heat scrubs Netball matches

The Deniliquin Rovers preparations for the 2016 season have taken a slight detour with the club unable to play it’s practice matches against Cohuna in Murrabit due to excessive heat.

Temperatures in Northern Victoria and Southern New South Wales are in the high 30’s to low 40’s making it unsafe for players, officials and spectators who would of been out in the heat today.

Outdoor matches and training sessions may have to be played in the hours immediately after sunrise or in twilight conditions with temperatures expected to be no less than 21 degrees at the start of the day and no higher than 41 degrees until next Friday at the latest.

DNS will continue to report on the situation as it comes to hand.

Deniliquin turns Blue

Deniliquin turned Blue today as residents showed their support for their local Nurses and protest against the proposed changes that will affect Deniliquin Hospital.

There were people wearing Blue clothing, there was people and letterboxes with Blue ribbons, there were Blue balloons on fences, Blue ribbons on signs even a ribbon was spotted around Colin too.

The colour support was not the only aspect of the day as several residents held up signs in support of the Nurses and a petition was also being signed by residents throughout the day.

Enthusiasm and support for today has been building all week with numerous Facebook posts being made and demand was so high for Blue ribbon that supplies had to be brought in from other towns to satisfy demand.

The town will remain Blue for some time to come as all good things take time to be done but it is hoped that the change the town seeks will happen sooner rather than later.

Photos of all the action taken by residents and organisers can be seen at ‘Colour Deni Blue‘ and DNS will continue to report on the fate of the proposed changes to the Murrumbidgee Local Health District as it comes to hand.

‘The Deniliquin Quiz Game’ opens

Since late last year, computer only game ‘The Deniliquin Quiz Game’ has been slowly built using a program called GameMaker: Studio and the results have been good as the originally planned ten question game expanded into a twenty-four question game.

The game is simple, players have to press 1, 2, 3 or 4 for each question and then press ‘Enter’ to get to the next question, the controls are touchy so make sure gamers that you press Enter just once to get to the next question.

Upon opening the game, click on Play then press 1, 2, 3 or 4 to answer the first question,
‘The Deniliquin Quiz Game’ is only for PC users but perhaps with time it will make it onto phones and other devices.

DNS wishes all gamers the best of luck and may you all get to 2400 points and be a Deniliquin Quiz King or Queen.
