Ghost Story Busted

We all love a good tale and so last week there was a story about a ghost walking alongside Barham Road.

The story was that a man was travelling from Deniliquin on his way to Victoria when he spotted the woman walking alongside Barham Road and he wrote of his terror of seeing such a sight and included a picture.

The story quickly got attention and made the social media rounds as it was quite a compelling (or humorous) tale and such a ghostly sight would cause most people a fright on a quiet road at night.

Fortunately or unfortunately the story was debunked after a couple of days as it is one of those stories that gets told across the internet with only the names of the places changed.

The tale was fun while it lasted but there is no doubt it will come up again in the near future ready for a new audience to appreciate and eventually laugh about.

Yo-Yo Weather continues

The hot days that have been around Deniliquin gave way to rain in the early hours of this morning.

The rain started to fall around 4:30am this morning and at one stage 5.8mm of rain fell in just ten minutes (6:40-6:50am).

Temperatures are currently predicted to stay reasonably cool (around 30) until Sunday where it will once again jump to 35 degrees before jumping up further to 40 degrees on Monday before going back down thanks to rain and other factors.

Morning Temperatures over the last nine days have been a mixed bag with five days starting over 15 degrees and four below that mark.

Maximum temperatures have been the same or hotter than the previous day for five days whilst four days had conditions were cooler than the previous day.

A total of 25mm has fallen this month and there is the potential to get the total over 30mm and keep up with the January rainfall average of 28mm.

DNS will keep readers appraised on the weather as it happens.

A week in Politics (16/1/17)

It was one week ago today that Sussan Ley stepped aside as Federal Health Minister before stepping down as Minister later in the week.

Politically the local area has had a golden run when it comes to Politics as its State and Federal MPs have been on the front bench of the Baird and Turnbull Governments respectively for several years.

Late last year it started to come crashing down as the Nationals lost the seat of Orange and Adrian Piccoli resigned as deputy leader of the Nationals in response but has remained as Education Minister.

If Adrian Piccoli resigns or is replaced as Education Minister then the local area will not have any Ministers in office for the first time in a long time.

DNS is currently polling locals to see if the Liberals will lose Farrer over what has happened with Sussan Ley and we will conduct a poll to see if the National Party will retain Murray in the next NSW Election sometime in the near future.

Stay tuned.

The Deni Pokemon Wrap (10/1/17)

Pokémon Go Deniliquin

Pokémon Go Deniliquin is steady on 179 members and has no new posts since November 24.

Ditto can be caught in Deniliquin with the example in the picture below caught in the Waring Gardens after originally beginning life as a Pidgey.

For those who want to see memes, stats and other news visit the Pokémon Go page that has over 2.9 million likes.

There have been updates made for Pokemon Go and as with most updates they come with some new bugs which have made gaming a bit quirky.

It will be interesting to see if the Generation 2 Pokemon spotted in the game code will mean an increase in gamers when they are released for playing.

Pokémon Shuffle News

Past and present locals are still making progress on Pokémon Shuffle though it is currently  like walking through mud.

As you know our two regular gamers Boony and Tiggy are racing each other on the mobile version of the game but have stalled in recent weeks with Boony currently holding at Stage 191 and Tiggy has slowly moved up to Stage 209 and we will continue to follow the race as it progresses.

Boony still has a narrow lead on Tiggy when it comes to totals of Pokemon caught with Boony boasting a total of 198 Pokemon to Tiggy’s total of 196.

Pokemon Sun and Moon

Boony tried out Pokemon Sun and Moon and his evaluation of the game is that he wasn’t a fan of the games that opened to great fanfare.

We’ll be back next week with a new edition of The Deni Pokemon Wrap.

Ley in Trouble

Local Federal MP Sussan Ley is in major trouble after it has been revealed that she billed the taxpayer so she could go visit Queensland and buy a place as well as enjoy the life up there.

The seat of Farrer is a safe Liberal seat but with Ley’s misdeeds and a backlash against the Liberals and Nationals in NSW which was clearly evident in the state seat of Orange last year when the Nationals lost a seat that was previously considered untouchable for any party other than the Nationals.

With the amount of money MPs receive, it is the publics view that it should be of no trouble to MPs, Premiers or Prime Ministers to buy their own air ticket and pay for their own lodgings instead of leaving it up to the people to pick up the tab.

It remains to be seen if Ley resigns or is fired from the Turnbull ministry, there is also the possibility that she resigns from Parliament which would force a by-election that could change politics in the local area forever.

The ALP’s challenge in Farrer in the last election was derailed by the candidate having to pull out of the contest early in the campaign but a full on ALP effort could result in a win and slim down the Coalition majority.

These are going to be interesting times.

EDIT 11:10am 9/1/17: Sussan Ley steps aside as Health Minister.
