Deniliquin’s rubbish continues

The levels of rubbish around Deniliquin appears to have increased in recent weeks particularly in areas around Coles, the Wood street side of the former Purtill’s depot and Henry Street.

The lake outside Deniliquin TAFE appears to be a piece of tin sheeting sticking out of the mud, there are also bottles ranging from Coke bottles to Beer bottles also in the lake which should be easily picked up by clean up crews operating around town.

Deniliquin News Service has reported on this problem for some time yet there is no sign of improvement with DNS suspecting that this problem is some time away from being rectified as it appears the tidying of the town is an afterthought compared to the promotion and event making.

Former Railway Station site still a mess

The site of the former Railway station is still considered a mess with bricks still from the station still scattered around the concrete and brick foundations and surrounding area, there is also a build up of rubbish surrounding the station site.

Residents believe that the site is unappealing to both local and tourist eyes and should be cleaned up promptly for surely such a situation does not require considerable resources to correct.

Some residents still hope that trains would return to Deniliquin for the current arrangement of a bus leaving for Echuca just after 7am and pickup from Echuca near 10pm is currently unacceptable, Deniliquin Council has eyes on the airport being made suitable for small airlines but it is felt by many that the train option would be more appealing and be more beneficial long term.

Class of 2004 came home this month

Deniliquin High’s Class of 2004 returned home on November 8 to mark the tenth year since the end of their school lives, the day started with a school tour in which some of the year group attended, while the school may look remarkably similar to 2004 on the outside it was certainly different on the inside with several rooms being altered, new technology added and the inner gardens expanded upon.

A big turnout happened for the night event at The Exchange, for those who were under 18 in 2004 it was their chance to experience a celebration with their classmates while those who were unable to attend the 2004 graduation for various reasons were able to experience the celebration.

Those who attended were able to look at various yearbooks from 1999 to 2004 which proved a snapshot of how the year group changed in from year group composition to the changes in weight, height and hairstyles, attendees were also given the opportunity to pose with a foam made replica Instagram post.

The conversations were flowing all night and so were all kinds of drinks which no doubt pleased The Exchange and it probably made them wish the Class of 2004 returned home every night of the week but a big gathering is not expected until 2019 or 2024 although with Deniliquin being home to many gatherings can happen anytime and anywhere.
