Football.

The Seniors fought hard today in their match but were eliminated from the finals by Blighty 14.17 – 101 to 13.8 -86.

Whilst the team will be undoubtedly disappointed in their loss, The side should take pride in the fact they came from last in 2015 to reach the finals this year and such a turnaround doesn’t happen often in sport.

The Reserves won their Qualifying Final on Saturday by defeating Blighty by 75 points.

The Rovers kicked 14.9 – 93 to 2.6 – 18 to advance to the next stage of their finals journey.

B. MacDonald kicked 6 goals and B. Todd kicked 2 goals whilst A. Goodear, B. Ezard, L. Fleming, K. Shephard, A. Rourke and M. Atley all kicked a goal apiece in the win.

The Fourths were defeated in their Qualifying Final against Strathmerton, the final scores were Rovers 11.7 – 73 to 5.1 – 31.

This loss while major does not mean the end of the premiership dream as the Rovers earned the double chance at making the big one.

T. Chandler and B. East kicked 2 goals apiece and J. Woodcock kicked a goal in the loss.

Thoughts

The finals journey for the Seniors ended today but for nine other Rovers sides the journey continues on for at least another week.

The stakes will be higher and will continue to get higher as the weeks go by but the Rovers are an organization that knows the stakes well and they will be ready to put on a show for all to see.

Rovers Talk will be back next Thursday with all the regular Thursday information as the Semi Finals comes to Memorial Park and other locations.

Thoughts

Composure is important this finals series as many matches throughout the regular season were tight ones and the team that stays the calmest under pressure will get through when the pressure is at it’s highest.

Also important is remembering that a team is like a machine, Every player is important and is needed otherwise the machine stops working, Individual brilliance is nice to see from a spectators point of view but a team that has it’s players playing their roles as planned usually wins.

Rovers Talk will be back on Sunday afternoon with all the results for you to read and hopefully enjoy.

Thoughts

There is a lot to play for this weekend with several Rovers teams able to gain ladder positions with a win and potentially lose spots with a loss.

C Grade can finish on top of the ladder if they defeat Berrigan, Berrigan were the better team in Round 9 but nine rounds is a long time in Netball and the Rovers can turn the tables on them this Saturday.

Another game of interest is the Seniors Football match with a Rovers win giving the team third position and a loss could potentially see them falling down to fifth if Blighty defeats Strathmerton.

The 1986 and 1996 Reserves Premiership winning sides are having their reunion on Friday and some may be seen at the game on Saturday, we wish them a great time over the next couple of days.

The 250 Club draw is at 6pm on Saturday, it’s $100 a ticket and the final day for tickets is today, Ticket holders have a chance to win $5000 and they also get to enjoy nibbles and drinks from 12:30pm right up to the final siren of the Seniors match.

The Goods and Services Auction is on right after the draw and the items on offer are very impressive and we congratulate the community on their generosity to the club.

For details on the 250 Club draw and what the Goods and Services Auction offers, see the Rovers FB page immediately so you don’t miss out.

Rovers Talk will be back on Saturday night with all the results for you to read and hopefully enjoy.
