New deal from Deniliquin Florist

June 4 2017

Deniliquin Florist has announced a new deal for their customers.

Any orders placed for flowers to be sent to loved ones and friends at Orana and Navorina will not be charged delivery fees whilst the recipient of the flowers will also be receiving Cadbury chocolates for free.

This deal will no doubt be popular as flowers do brighten up a day and so does the eating of any amount of chocolate.

Deniliquin Florist is currently doing well as their Facebook page is approaching 1000 likes and we hope that they will reach the milestone in the not too distant future.

To get news on all the latest deals and more, please visit their Facebook page (link at top of story) or drop in at 214 Cressy Street between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12pm on Saturday’s (closed on Sunday).

Pick 10 for funding chance

Edward River Council has 56 proposals for people in the Council area to consider being funded by the NSW Stronger Communities Fund.

Sadly all the proposals would cost around $20 million dollars to do and there is only 8.6 million dollars to play with so choices have to be made.

Residents have the opportunity to pick up to ten selections they think deserve to be funded.

One proposal that would be of interest to DNS readers is Proposal 52 which reads the following.

Project 52 – Council Pool – Multiply Uses and Increase Users
Pool Complex in Poictiers Street – Convert existing pool complex to indoor facility and add splash pool high quality facilities.
Estimated Cost: $2,000,000 (inc GST)

There are also proposals that concern roads and recycling, two issues that DNS readers feel very strongly about fixing and enacting.

But there is one potential drawback to everything, the most popular proposal is no guarantee of being funding as it comes down to the independently run Stronger Communities Fund Assessment Panel.

Don’t forget that Deniliquin now has to share funding with other towns as part of the Deniliquin Council and Conargo Shire merger so there is no certainty it will be a Deniliquin dominated outcome too.

To vote in the survey, please click here and if you want to read more about the proposals click here, voters have until 5pm on Friday June 9 to submit their answers.

SWM needs your help

South West Music is currently conducting a survey to see what sort of live music events people want to see in Deniliquin and the local area.

The survey is located on this link and there is a chance to win a $100 EFTPOS Gift Card upon completion of the survey.

Questions in the survey include the following

What types of music would you like to see more of?
What types of concerts do you prefer?
Remembering the best concert you have ever been to – what about it did you love?
What is your dream concert, performer or venue?
Is there a past concert series artist you would like to see perform locally again?
Do you have any suggestions for future SWMRC concerts?

DNS hopes that South West Music gets plenty of answers to help them put on successful events and showcase local music talent as well as introducing talent from afar to the local area.

Deni Speaks (29/5/17)

May 29 2017

In this edition of Deni Speaks, we posted four questions on our website for readers to answer and we can now discuss the outcome of the voting.

Questions asked

1. Deniliquin Swim Centre needs…..
2. Does Deniliquin need a Dog Park?
3. Does Deniliquin need Natural Gas?
4. Does Deniliquin need a Kmart

Results

43% of residents think the Swim Centre should be a Splash Park, 32 think the pools need to be indoors like Echuca and 25% just want general upgrades and maintenance and 0% said they should leave it as it is.

64% of voters said that Deniliquin needs a Dog Park.

89% of voters said that Deniliquin needs Natural Gas.

74% of voters said that Deniliquin needs Kmart.

Conclusion

Whilst it was not a majority, a splash park seems to be on the minds of locals and as we all know the train is starting to make its way down the track to fruition but whether it will make it all the way is another question.

A Dog Park seems to be the easiest of all wants and needs as there is plenty of space for an enclosed space to safely walk dogs around and should not cost the ERC too much if they give it a shot.

Natural Gas will be a problem to achieve as one of our loyal readers has found out that it would be a massive expense to connect Deniliquin to Natural Gas and then the town would need qualified and accredited gas fitters to install the meters and the town would need to have trained repairers to fix gas leaks.

After all that it would cost $3000+ to have a house connected and then you got to have appliances to use Natural Gas and all of the above would scare people off.

Now to Kmart, the fact that 75% of locals who answered our question want Kmart serves as an indicator that Kmart has what Deniliquin hasn’t and a shrewd business should work double time to find out what Kmart has that Deniliquin shoppers want and bring it to their store because any attempt to bring Kmart to Deniliquin would be met with heavy resistance because of Kmart’s big range of stuff in the one place and a wise business wouldn’t want valuable dollars going elsewhere.

We’ll be back soon with a new edition of Deni Speaks.
