Playground upgrade group established

A Facebook group dedicated on getting Edward River Council to upgrade the playground at Waring Gardens has been established.

A petition is currently on the drawing board and is expected to be readied for signing in the next few weeks.

Information is also being sought for example images of parks from other towns to compare to businesses that are willing to have a petition at their business ready for locals and visitors to sign.

The playground at Waring Gardens is the one being looked at as it is most central of all the playgrounds in town and it is also considered to be the most outdated therefore making it a great choice for upgrading.

If you would like to join the group or just check it out please click here, the group currently has a total of 239 members and this number should grow in the coming weeks.

DNS will continue to report on the progress of the petition as it comes to hand.

Remembrance Day

Today is the 98th anniversary of the day that fighting in World War 1 stopped after four years of bloody conflict.

During this day we think of all the millions of lives that were lost and the millions more lives that were forever altered either by injuries sustained in the conflict or the loss of family and friends.

We think of all the other conflicts that have been fought throughout time and the ones that are being fought right now even as this piece is being put together.

We think of the welfare of those who have been in war and those who are currently in a combat situation or are preparing to be in a combat situation in the future.

Lastly we think about the prospect of peace throughout the world where nobody has to fight, nobody has to die or be injured and nobody has to live with the horrors of war, may all of this and more come true sooner rather than later.

The Deni Pokemon Wrap (7/11/16)

Pokémon Go Deniliquin

Pokémon Go Deniliquin is back up to 184 members after a week of being at 183 members.

The Group is the place to go when you want to know everything local about Pokémon Go.

Recent group activity is still at zero but with news that Pokemon Eggs now take shorter walking distances to hatch and a shuffling of the common Pokemon people get all the time may mean gamers will take up the game again sooner rather than later.

Pokemon Go players also cannot play from their cars due to software changes that detect your phone moving at speeds faster than walking pace, this was made to prevent drivers playing on the move.

For those who want to see memes, stats and other news visit the Pokémon Go page that has almost over 2.9 million likes or this one that has 2.3 million likes.

Pokémon Shuffle News

Past and present locals have continued to have made progress on Pokémon Shuffle.

As you know our two regular gamers Boony and Tiggy are racing each other on the mobile version with Boony and Tiggy both on Stage 184 and we will continue to follow the race as it progresses.

Boony has a massive lead on Tiggy when it comes to totals of Pokemon caught with Boony boasting a total of 192 Pokemon to Tiggy’s total of 148.

A third local Pokemon Shuffle player is reportedly now up to Stage 183 which makes it achievement and we hope to find more players in the near future and have a weekly tally

Pokemon Sun and Moon

The release of both Pokemon Sun and Moon is now just 10 days away from being able to be played in their entirety by Pokemon fans.

We’ll be back next week with a new edition of The Deni Pokemon Wrap.

Polling Landslides

Tomorrow’s US Election may be getting all the press but in the last week DNS readers have been to the polls answering two questions that hopefully will inspire people to shape Deniliquin in the future.

The two questions posed to the readers for a week were

Should a Train service return to Deniliquin?
Should KFC return to Deniliquin?

As you might see above (apologies for the small sizes) the Yes vote was the overwhelming choice with 96% of the vote to the Train service question.

The KFC vote also had a decisive result with 80% of voters saying Yes to the popular Fast Food chain returning after so long out of town.

Of course both desires may be difficult to obtain, huge amounts of money must be poured in to make a train service and then people got to use the thing but the idea of rail once again connecting Deniliquin to large parts of Victoria and vice versa is exciting.

KFC has the issues of store size, the abundance of takeaway shops and the fact KFC didn’t survive last time as barriers to returning but they can be dealt with if done right.

The point of the polls is to see what people want and perhaps some person or group may say well this small sampling of people say yes then maybe we can investigate further or take a chance on the town and both of those are wins for the town.

So far the town has voted Yes to a Deniliquin to Melbourne Air Service, A Train service and the return of KFC and we’ll be back soon with new polls to see what Deniliquin residents want in the future.

Shoosh for good sideline behaviour

Deniliquin Athletics is supporting the Shoosh for Kids Week campaign that is taking place this week in NSW.

Shoosh for Kids is a collaborative effort by the Sport and Recreation and the State Sporting Organisations with the aim to promote positive behaviour from those on the sidelines at state sporting organisation events throughout NSW.

Kids do not need to be verbally abused on the sports field, many kids participate in sport for fun and to spend time with their friends as well as making new friends along the way.

Officials also do not need any abuse hurled at them from spectators, this and the above are some of the reasons why some kids are no longer participating in sports.

Further information on Shoosh for Kids Week can be found on the official site.
