Fundraising Update

Regular readers of DNS would know that we’ve been doing reports on how the fundraising for the Byrne family has been going.

The latest is that 11 days ago, Win News done a story on what has been happening and things picked up rapidly for the GoFundMe Fundraiser as the total jumped some $1,435 in two days showing that people in the local area really care about what is happening to people and wishing that things would improve for them.

The fundraiser is now in its last 20% towards its goal of reaching $10,000 and it should get there with time, donations can be made at any time on this link.

The auction that was held between February 8 and 10 raised $560, the auctioned items were a hotel stay and Guns ‘N Roses tickets and from the show reviews the winner must of seen one great show even if it did start late.

The raffle that we reported on earlier this month as under development is now underway and tickets can be purchased at the below locations.

Deni Children’s Centre
John’s Hair Fashions
Deniliquin Dry Cleaners

There are 10 draws and a wide range of prizes from Toy Boxes to Wind Chimes so there is potentially something for everyone and the raffle will be drawn on March 3, for more details please see the fundraiser page.

There is also a Cakes, Slices, Biscuits and more sale on Saturday February 25th at the Kiosk from 9am, if you would like to help out or find out more information please visit the event page.

That is the latest on the fundraising efforts and we’ll be back with a new report in a couple of weeks time.

Football coming to Narrandera

AFL Football is coming to Narrandera Sports Ground this weekend as the GWS Giants take on the West Coast Eagles as part of the JLT Community Series.

Its the first time since 2010 that a game has come to Narrandera and there is no doubt that Deniliquin will be watching with great interest as Edward River Council are on the hunt for national sports events and a football game could be on the shopping list.

The closest football matches to Deniliquin during this JLT Community Series are Essendon vs. Geelong in Bendigo and St Kilda vs. Sydney in Albury on March 12.

The weather for the game is expected to be 26 degrees, that temperature is eight degrees lower than todays maximum of 34 making it a pleasant afternoon for football.

Match starts at 2:05pm.

Hello? Hello? Hello?

February 16 2017

Deniliquin is getting really annoyed with phone companies at the moment, annoyed is actually putting it politely as many would happily add an F word before annoyed or say something entirely different that we won’t print.

Telstra and Optus have both had problems in recent weeks and the outages have been annoying the absolute heck out of locals because of the high amount of outages such as the one shown below.

So far our website poll asking if people are happy with phone companies currently has 86% of voters saying ‘No’ and that number has the potential to increase over time before the poll closes.

We’ll let readers know how the polls end up and amend the above with final totals but it is already clear that local levels of happiness with the phone companies is shrinking by the day.

The Deni Pokémon Wrap (15/2/17)

Pokémon Go Deniliquin

Pokémon Go Deniliquin is steady on 179 members and has no new posts since November 24.

There are reports that Trading and Player vs. Player battles will be put into a game in the future, one of the two would already be available if it wasn’t for server instability.

Pokémon Shuffle News

Past and present locals are still making progress on Pokémon Shuffle though it is getting harder to get somewhere.

As you know our two regular gamers Boony and Tiggy are racing each other on the mobile version of the game but have stalled in recent weeks with Boony up to Stage 192 and Tiggy has  moved up to Stage 219 and we will continue to follow the race as it progresses.

Stage 214 has the Bug Pokémon Spewpa as the challenge whilst Stage 192 has the Normal Pokémon Lickilicky.

Boony and Tiggy are level when it comes to totals of Pokemon caught with both having a total of 198 Pokémon.

We will be back next fortnight with a new edition of The Deni Pokemon Wrap.

Heat wrecks sport preparations

Local outdoor sports players have had a hard time training recently due to high temperatures in the local area.

Rovers training has been cancelled on a couple of occasions and so has Rams training/selections but the Rams managed to get some in last night with the team training in short spurts followed by long breaks to keep players cool and safe.

Temperatures have always been a problem as readers may remember that some Football and Netball practice matches were cancelled last year due to heat which made preparations less than ideal but in the end did not cripple the Rovers preparations.

There may be some good news with current long range projections showing that temperatures in the early part of next week will be in the high 20’s before creeping up into the low 30’s which could mean at least one fairly comfortable training session.
