Visit Deni’s September Video

September 18 2017

Visit Deni released their new 30 second video on YouTube earlier this month and it is one that will entice families and adventurers to consider coming to town.

The weather cooperated with the film makers as clear skies enabled the area to be fully shown off, the Edward River is the star of the video as people are seen boating, paddling and fishing.

The Edward does have a wide variety of fish for fishers to try and catch ensuring days of action.

At the end of the video clip, there is a website for prospective tourists to check out and the below locations are offering anyone who books three nights accommodation for February and March 2018 will get the third night free.

Centrepoint Hotel
McLean Beach Holiday Park
Pioneer Tourist Park
Big4 Deniliquin
Settlement Motor Inn
Riverview Motel
Deniliquin Riverside Caravan Park
Deniliquin Country Club Motor Inn
Edward River Hotel

So if you want to have a holiday in Deniliquin on the last month of Summer or the first month of Autumn then this is one option to consider.

A second shorter video from Visit Deni is also available showcasing local events.

Finals Talk (14/9/17)

September 14 2017

It is Preliminary Final weekend coming up and the Rams have four Netball teams in with a shot of making the Grand Final of their competition.

We take a look at the most recent clash between finalists and how both sides got to the Preliminary Final.

A Grade vs Tongala

Tongala comfortably won their Round 10 clash 49 to 37 in their only clash of the season.

The Rams have had to fight their way to the Preliminary Final by defeating Numurkah 37 to 34 in the Elimination Final and defeating Echuca United 45 to 43 in the Semi Final.

U/15’s vs Tongala

Tongala narrowly won their Round 10 clash 34 to 31 so this match has the potential of being another close one.

Tongala defeated Mulwala 47 to 17 in their Elimination Final and held off Moama 48 to 47 in the Semi Final.

The Rams lost their Semi Final to Echuca 32 to 26 and a win on the weekend will see them face Echuca United again in the Grand Final.

U/13’s vs Echuca United

Echuca United comfortably won their Round 9 clash 46 to 18.

To get to this weekend, the Rams outlasted Finley 34 to 31 in the Elimination Final and then held off Moama 35 to 34.

Echuca United lost their Semi Final to Tongala 31 to 20 and will be hoping to face them again in the Grand Final.

U/12’s vs Echuca United

Echuca United won their Round 9 clash 25 to 18.

The Rams are playing their third final having won their Elimination Final against Rumbalara and Semi Final match against Nathalia by 22 and 13 goals.

Echuca United were defeated in their Semi Final against Tongala 26 to 19 and a win would see them face Tongala again.

Conclusion

All four teams were unsuccessful against their opponents in their one regular season clash but a tough Finals campaign may even up the odds in their bid to make the Grand Final.

We’ll be back on Saturday night with all the results.

ERC Election Wrap

September 12 2017

The counting has been concluded and the results are in and following are members of the ERC.

Norm Brennan
Pat Fogarty
Ashley Hall
Peta Betts
Mac Wallace
Norm McAllister
Margaret Bull
Peter McCrabb
Nick Metcalfe

The Council is packed with experience with five ex Conargo Shire Councillors in Norm Brennan, Mac Wallace, Norm McAllister, Peter McCrabb and Nick Metcalfe

Pat Fogarty and Ashley Hall served as Deniliquin Council Councillors and Ashley Hall was also the administrator of the ERC until elections could be held this year.

Peta Betts and Margaret Bull were not part of either Deniliquin Council or Conargo Shire between 2012 and 2016, this could serve the ERC well as they will bring both a new perspective and new ideas to the table.

The election turnout was 82.07% and out of the 5,269 votes cast, 182 (3.45%) of those votes were informal and the quota for a candidate to be elected was 509.

A total of 15 counts were required to elect the Council as the predicted system of preference distributing and candidate exclusion became true.

8 of the 9 candidates were elected by reaching quota, the ninth (Nick Metcalfe) was elected as nobody else could reach his total amount of votes.

How they were elected
Norm Brennan and Pat Fogarty were elected after the first count
Ashley Hall was elected after the second count
Mac Wallace was elected after the eighth count
Norm McAllister and Margaret Bull were elected after the eleventh count
Peter McCrabb and Peta Betts were elected after the thirteenth count
Nick Metcalfe was elected after the fifteenth count

Congratulations to all elected members of the ERC and commiserations to those who were not elected, we hope that they will continue to be a voice in the community for many years to come.

The story isn’t quite over yet, a Mayor will have to be picked and based on votes Norm Brennan would have a pretty strong case then it is time to get to work as roads need smoothing, recycling needs to be reality and the many more jobs needing to be done among the many wants, needs and desires of the people of the ERC.
