Rovers Talk (23/6/16)

Round 12 of the Football and Netball season is coming up this weekend with the Rovers sides traveling to Picola to take on Picola United.

The Rovers and Picola United last met in Round 3 of the competitions with the Rovers winning 10 out of the 11 Football and Netball matches between the two sides.

Netball

A Grade go into their match with an 6-2-1 record whilst their Picola United opponents are finals contenders with an 4-4-1 record.

Last time they met: A Grade won their Round 3 match against Picola United 51 to 44.

B Grade are sitting on top of the ladder with a 10-0 record and are taking on a Picola United side that is sitting in eighth spot with an 1-8-1 record.

Last time they met: B Grade won their Round 3 match against Picola United 49 to 24.

C Grade are sitting on top of the C Grade ladder with a 8-2 record and they will take on a Picola United side that is sitting in sixth position with an 3-7 record.

Last time they met: C Grade won their Round 3 match against Picola United 40 to 33.

C Reserve are sitting in second spot on the ladder with an 8-2 record whilst Picola United are sitting in fourth position with an 6-4 record.

Last time they met: C Reserve won their Round 3 match against Picola United 36 to 28.

Under 17‘s are now 10-0 for the season and they are taking on a Picola United side that is sitting in fifth position with an 6-4 record.

Last time they met: Under 17’s won their Round 3 match against Picola United 44 to 27.

Under 15‘s are now 5-5 for the season and are currently just a game and percentage of the Top 5, Picola United are right behind them in seventh with an 3-7 record.

Last time they met: Under 15’s won their Round 3 match against Picola United 30 to 19.

Under 13‘s are on top of the ladder with an 9-0 record and they are taking a Picola United side that is sitting in third position with an 7-3 record.

Last time they met: Under 13’s won their Round 3 match against Picola United 35 to 13.

Football

Rovers Seniors are sitting in fourth position on the ladder with an 7-3 record and they take on a Picola United side that is sitting on top of the ladder with an 9-1 record.

Last time they met: Seniors lost their Round 3 match against Picola United 23.6 – 144 to 10.8 – 68.

Rovers Reserves are on top of the ladder with an 10-0 record and they take on second place Picola United who have an 9-1 record making this game an interesting encounter.

Last time they met: Reserves won their Round 3 match against Picola United 6.10 – 46 to 4.4 – 28.

The Thirds are on top of the competition ladder with an 10-0 record against a Picola United side that is sitting in third with an 6-4 record.

Last time they met: The Thirds’s won their Round 3 match against Picola United 11.13 – 79 to 2.4 – 16.

The Fourths are sitting fourth on the ladder with a 7-3 record and are against a Picola United side that is sitting in seventh position on the ladder with a 2-8 record.

Last time they met: The Fourths won their Round 3 against Picola United 11.9 – 75 to 8.5 – 53.

Thoughts

It will be an interesting round of matches as both sides have a lot to play for across the various competitions, DNS wishes all sides good, clean and injury free matches.

Rovers Talk (18/6/16)

Round 11 of the Football and Netball competitions got underway today with the Rovers taking on Blighty at Memorial Park.

Netball

A Grade came into todays game aiming to avoid a repeat of the Round 2 loss against Blighty and today they won by a big margin, This result gives the Rovers four wins and a draw from the last five matches showing that the side is in great form at this present time.

B Grade have continued on their winning streak after recording a 45 to 38 win over their Blighty opponents today.

C Grade has won two matches in a row after defeating their Blighty opponents 49 to 30, this win improves the sides record to 8 wins and 2 losses.

C Reserve‘s six game winning streak came to an end today against a strong Blighty opponent, Blighty won todays game 35 to 23.

The Junior sides played very well against their Blighty opponents and below is the results of their games.

The Under 17’s have won their game against their Blighty opponents in convincing fashion with the scores at full time reading Rovers 83 to Blighty 7.

The Under 15’s have won three in a row for the first time this season after defeating their Blighty opponents 19 to 15.

The Under 13’s have continued with their winning streak by defeating their Blighty opponents 37 to 16.

Football

Rovers Football sides were in action against their Blighty opponents with success finding most of the Rovers teams.

The Seniors fell to Blighty today ending their six match winning streak, The Rovers lead by four points at Quarter Time before Blighty took the lead in the second quarter to lead at Half Time by four before extending their lead to 19 and 24 at Three Quarter Time and Full Time.

Finals scores read Blighty 9.11 – 65 to Rovers 6.5 – 41.

T. Lumbar kicked four for the Rovers whilst A. Bond and J. Gilligan kicked a goal in the loss

The Reserves had to work hard to defeat Blighty in their match after Blighty lead by 18 at Quarter Time, 10 at Half Time and two at Three Quarter Time.

The Reserves won by keeping Blighty scoreless after Half Time whilst adding 4.3 themselves to win 6.6 – 42 to 4.1 – 25.

D. Kirby kicked 3 goals, B. Ezard kicked 2 and L. Fleming kicked one goal in the win.

The Thirds have continued on with their undefeated start to the season by defeating their Blighty opponents by 81 points.

The Thirds raced to a 47 point lead at Quarter Time and the result was never in doubt from there as they extended their lead in every quarter of the game with the last quarter the closest with the Rovers winning that one 2.4 to 2.1.

R. Norris kicked 5, R. Murray kicked 4 goals, B. Sartore kicked 3 goals whilst R. Gazzara, D. Kirby, J. Caniglia and J. Allitt all kicked one goal apiece in the win.

The Fourths have made it three wins in a row by keeping their Blighty opponents scoreless in the match to record a 5.6 – 36 to 0.0 – o win.

The winning streak of three is the second time the side has achieved a hat trick of wins this season.

B. Thomson, R. Murphy, T. McDonnell, J. Liu and B. East all kicked one goal apiece for the Rovers in the win.

Thoughts

Good results overall for the Rovers with the majority of its Football and Netball sides winning today.

Blighty are always known for having competitive sides and today was no exception with Blighty making the Rovers work hard for their wins and taking valuable lessons from their losses.

Next week will see the Rovers taking on Picola United and it will be another challenging round of matches for both sides.

Rovers Talk (16/6/16)

Round 11 of the Football and Netball season is coming up this weekend and the Rovers are in fine form with all sides winning their matches against Yarroweyah last weekend.

This week the Rovers take on their Round 2 opponents Blighty and they have teams that will pose a great challenge to many of the Rovers sides this Saturday.

Netball

A Grade are sitting third on the ladder with a 5-2-1 record whilst their Blighty opponents are currently title contenders as they sit above the Rovers on the ladder.

Last time they met: A Grade lost their Round 2 match against Blighty 53 to 47.

B Grade are sitting on top of the ladder with a 9-0 record and are looking to get total of wins for the season into double figures against Blighty.

Last time they met: B Grade won their Round 2 match against Blighty 39 to 21

C Grade are sitting on top of the C Grade ladder with a 7-2 record and they will take on a Blighty side that is sitting outside the Top 5 and are eager to close the gap on them.

Last time they met: C Grade won their Round 2 match against Blighty 59 to 32.

C Reserve are in a scrap with Blighty for top spot and a win will do wonders for both sides as they set about securing their spot in the finals later on in the year.

Last time they met: C Reserve lost their Round 2 match against Blighty 38 to 14.

Under 17‘s are top of the ladder with an 9-0 record and they are coming up against a Blighty side that is seeking wins in order to stay in touch with the Top 5.

Last time they met: Under 17’s won their Round 2 match against Blighty 61 to 17.

Under 15‘s have won their last two games to improve their record to 4-5 and keep in touch with the Top 5.

Blighty are in the Top 5 and a win will help them in their quest to finish third or higher in the competition whilst a loss will bring them closer to being caught by the Rovers.

Last time they met: Under 15’s lost their Round 2 match against Blighty 24 to 16.

Under 13‘s are on top of the ladder with an 9-0 record and they are taking a Blighty side that looks to be a finals contender as they battle for second place on the ladder.

Last time they met: Under 13’s won their Round 2 match against Blighty 28 to 17.

Football

Rovers Seniors are second on the ladder with a 7-2 record and they take on a Blighty side that is sitting fifth with a 4-4-1 record.

Last time they met: Seniors lost their Round 2 match against Blighty 16.11 – 107 to 9.6 – 60.

Rovers Reserves are on top of the ladder with a 9-0 record and take on a Blighty side that is sitting fourth with a 6-3 record.

Last time they met: Reserves won their Round 1 match against Blighty 8.7 – 55 to 2.5 – 17.

The Thirds are undefeated after nine games and they are looking to make it ten in a row against a Blighty side that is sitting in sixth with a 5-4 record.

Last time they met: The Thirds’s won their Round 2 match against Blighty 21.13 – 139 to 1.3 – 9.

The Fourths are sitting fourth on the ladder with a 6-3 record and are against a Blighty side that is sitting in sixth position on the ladder with a 4-5 record.

Last time they met: The Fourths won their Round 2 against Blighty 6.3 – 39 to 0.1 – 0.

Thoughts

This weekend will be a tough weekend for the Rovers as both sides have been highly successful across both the Football and Netball competitions so far this season.

Rovers Talk (11/6/16)

Round 10 of Football and Netball competitions got underway today with the Rovers taking on Yarroweyah.

Netball

A Grade were back in action today after having a bye last week and they are on the winners list again thanks to a 49 to 35 win over Yarroweyah.

A Grade now has a 5-2-1 record for the season and they get the chance next week to win two in a row and improve their record to 6-2-1.

B Grade went into the match against their Yarroweyah opponents with a perfect 8-0 record and they’ve made it 9-0 with a comfortable 60 to 21 win over Yarroweyah.

C Grade were aiming to improve their record to 7-2 for the season today and they’ve done so with a 45 to 31 win over their Yarroweyah opponents.

C Reserve aimed to win their seventh match in a row this season and they’ve done so by defeating Yarroweyah 48 to 17.

The Junior sides played very well against their Yarroweyah opponents and below is the results of their games.

The Under 17’s won their match against Yarroweyah in convincing fashion with the final scores being 58 to 15 in the Rovers favour.

The Under 15’s were up against it today as Yarroweyah were 6-2 going into todays match compared to the Rovers 3-5 but the Rovers won the game in nail-biting fashion with a one goal win, the final scores reading Rovers 36 to Yarroweyah 35.

The Under 13’s are now 9-0 for this season after defeating Yarroweyah 35 to 1 in their match today.

Football

Rovers Football sides were in action against their Yarroweyah opponents and overall the teams had a very good day.

The Seniors were out to win six in a row and Yarroweyah made them earn it after they established a 22 point lead at quarter time before the Rovers cut it down to one at half time.

A third quarter shootout of 5.1 apiece had Yarroweyah still ahead by one at three quarter time before the Rovers kicked 5.3 to 0.2 to win the game by 30 points, the final scores read Rovers 17.8 – 110 to Yarroweyah 12.8 – 80.

T. Lumbar kicked 5, B. McCalman 3 and A. Hogan both kicked 3, S. Cuffe kicked two and D. May, T. Draffin, A. Bond, M. Robinson all kicked one goal apiece in the win.

The Reserves entered their match against Yarroweyah with an eight match winning streak and they have made it nine straight by defeating Yarroweyah by 97 points with the scores at the final siren reading Rovers 16.7 – 103 to Yarroweyah 1.0 – 6

B. Hardman topped the goal kickers list with 4, B. Ezard kicked three, M. Atley 2 and D. Kirby kicked 2 goals apiece whilst D. East, M. Johnson, J. Glowrey, J. Mercer and B. MacDonald all kicked one goal apiece in the win.

The Thirds went into todays game looking to make it nine wins in a row and they succeeded with a massive 188 point win at the expense of their Yarroweyah opponents.

The Rovers kicked 28.20 – 188 to 0.0 – 0 with R. Norris kicking 10 followed by D. Kirby and  J. Campbell kicking 3 goals apiece with B. Marchant,  J. Weir, J. Allitt and R. Murray kicking two goals apiece and L. Hay, J. Flight, T. Bradford and J. Caniglia all kicking a goal apiece in the win.

The Fourths won their second match in a row with a  10.13 – 73 to 0.0 – 0 over their Yarroweyah opponents in the first football game of the day, the win improves the Rovers record to 6-3.

J. Liu and J. Woodcock both kicked three goals whilst H. Gardiner, B. East, R. Murphy and J. Ezard all kicked a goal apiece in the win.

Thoughts

Solid results for the Rovers in Netball with all teams winning their matches, the Under 15’s win against the higher up Yarroweyah side will no doubt give the side confidence in their quest to join the finals party.

Rovers Footballers will be very happy with their results as all four sides won their matches today though the Seniors are most likely very thankful for their last quarter burst to get the win over their hungry Yarroweyah opponents.

A clean sweep of todays games is always welcome with all players, fans and officials of the various Rovers teams getting to enjoy the winning feeling on the way home to Deniliquin.

Rovers Talk (9/6/16)

Round 10 of the Football and Netball seasons is coming up this weekend and for the first time we get to see how every side measures up to each other thanks to all sides now having played each other once and had a bye each (two in A Grade’s case).

With everyone playing each other once, teams this week will be playing their Round 1 opponents and in the Rovers case that is Yarroweyah.

Netball

A Grade are sitting third on the ladder with a 4-2-1 record, their Yarroweyah opponents are sitting in seventh spot with a 1-7 record.

Yarroweyah thanks to their win last week are no longer winless this season and will be hungry to win two in a row.

Last time they met: A Grade won their Round 1 match against Yarroweyah 54 to 21.

B Grade are sitting on top of the ladder with a 8-0 record and they are up against a Yarroweyah side that is yet to win this season but that does not mean the match will be a slam dunk for the Rovers as they chase a ninth win in a row.

Last time they met: B Grade won their Round 1 match against Yarroweyah 53 to 36.

C Grade are sitting in second on the C Grade ladder with a 6-2 record and they will take on a Yarroweyah side that is yet to win so far this season and there is no doubt the Rovers will be wary of a side hungry to break their 2016 drought.

Last time they met: C Grade won their Round 1 match against Yarroweyah 55 to 17.

C Reserve are in second position on the C Reserve ladder with a 6-2 record and they are up against a Yarroweyah side that is currently winless at this stage of the season and that means the Rovers side has to be wary of them on Saturday.

Last time they met: C Reserve won their Round 1 match against Yarroweyah 62 to 2.

Under 17‘s are top of the ladder with an 8-0record and will be out to make it nine in a row against a Yarroweyah side that is sitting in eighth with a 1-7 record and are eager to improve that record to 2-7.

Last time they met: Under 17’s won their Round 1 match against Yarroweyah 61 to 14.

Under 15‘s are sitting sixth on the ladder with a 3-5 record and are up against a Yarroweyah side that is third on the ladder with a 6-2 record.

A win for the Rovers will ensure the side is no more than two wins outside the Top 5 with all wins important for the Rovers from now on.

Last time they met: Under 15’s lost their Round 1 match against Yarroweyah 35 to 25.

Under 13‘s are on top of the ladder with an 8-0 record and come up against a Yarroweyah side that is yet to win so far this season but like many of the Rovers teams they will be wary of Yarroweyah who are no doubt eager to get a win on the board.

Last time they met: Under 13’s won their Round 1 match against Yarroweyah 44 to 3.

Football

Rovers Seniors are second on the ladder with a 6-2 record and are coming up against a Yarroweyah side that is on the bottom with a 1-7 record and would be eager to win to get ahead of Mathoura.

Last time they met: Seniors won their Round 1 match against Yarroweyah 14.13- 97 to 7.5 – 47.

Rovers Reserves are on top of the ladder with a 8-0 record and they are aiming to make it 9-0 against a Yarroweyah side that sits in eighth with a 1-7 record.

Last time they met: Reserves won their Round 1 match against Yarroweyah 14.9 – 93 to 1.2 – 8.

The Thirds are undefeated after eight games and they are looking to make it nine wins in a row against a Yarroweyah side that is yet to have a win in 2016.

Last time they met: The Thirds’s won their Round 1 match against Yarroweyah 25.18 – 168 to 0.0 – 0.

The Fourths are sitting fourth on the ladder with a 5-3 record and are against a Yarroweyah side that is sitting in eighth position on the ladder with a 1-7 record.

Last time they met: The Fourths won their Round 1 match against Yarroweyah 17.13 – 115 to 2.3 – 15.

Thoughts

Several Yarroweyah teams have not had a win so far this year but this does not mean that the Rovers teams playing against them will be certain winners on Saturday.
