Rovers Talk (16/4/16)

The Rovers came out to play at home today and they’d shown it by displaying solid efforts with the Netball sides all grabbing wins whilst the Football sides had a mixed day.

Netball

A Grade were out to get the win after their loss to Blighty last week and they delivered with a seven goal win, the final score at the end of the game was 51 to 44.
This result gives them the ‘Meatloaf’ with the side winning two out of three and as the song goes ‘two out of three ain’t bad’.

B Grade had a day out after defeating their Picola United opponents by 25 with the final score reading 49 to 24.

The margin put them second in terms of victory margins by the Rovers Senior teams today.

The Juniors also had a very solid day and we have it all for you below.

The Under 17’s finished their game with a 17 goal win with the scoreboard reading 44 to 27 at the end and the result means they are three wins from three games.

Thoughts

A great day for the Deniliquin Rovers with nine wins out of ten for the Club when combining Netball and Football results together.

Congratulations once again to the U/15 Netball team for winning their first game of the 2016 season, no doubt the first of many this year.

Rovers Seniors are no doubt disappointed in losing two games in a row in Football but they live to fight another day and will give it their all to win against Jerilderie on their turf next week.

Rovers Talk (14/4/16)

It’s Round 3 this weekend and all the Rovers action takes place at Memorial Park as the Rovers take on Picola United.

It was a mixed bag of results for both the Netball and Football teams in Round 2 against Blighty.
Rovers Seniors and Reserves will have a good challenge ahead against two very skilled Picola sides but at the end of the day the Rovers are aiming to send all of their Picola guests back home without taking maximum competition points with them.

The A grade netballers will be very determined to win this week after losing to Blighty. They will come out to play with a vengeance against Picola United and will be hard to stop and all of their fellow Rovers teams are raring to go as well.

After the completion of all games, Rovers members should get on down to the clubrooms for the fortnightly membership draw. The draw is conducted around 6:10pm so make sure you are there on time to ensure that you don’t miss out on the chance of walking out with some cash.

For those who love the Rovers functions, clear your shedule for April 30 as there is a mystery function taking place in the clubrooms from 6:30pm. Entry is free, prizes are up for grabs and drinks are at bar prices. Further details are available at the event page.

Lastly for this edition of Rovers Talk, the Rovers Facebook page is just 192 likes away from reaching 1,500 likes which would be a great milestone to reach during this season and begin the march towards 2,000 likes and beyond.

Go Rovers!

Rovers Talk 9/4/15

Round 2 got underway today with all Rovers teams looking to build on their opening round efforts by doing the same or better against Blighty on Blighty’s home turf.

Netball

A Grade lost their match today against Blighty 53 to 47, B Grade were triumphant in their match 39 to 21, C Grade were big winners with the score at the end reading 59 to 32 and the C Reserves had a tough day at the office with a 38 to 14 loss.

Mixed results for the Junior teams with the Under 17’s winning big with the score 61 to 17, the Under 15’s tried hard in their 24 to 16 loss and the Under 13’s secured a 28 to 17 win

Overall the Rovers had a mixed bag of results on the Netball courts at Blighty but they’ll all look to have a solid Round 3 back at Memorial Park when they take on Picola United.

Football

Rovers Seniors had a tough day today as they went down by 47 points, It was an even first quarter with the Rovers just one point behind before Blighty outscored the Rovers five goals to one in the second quarter to pull away from the Rovers before scoring ten goals to seven in the second half to record the 16.11 – 107 to 9.6 – 60 result.

B. MacDonald booted four, T. Lumbar booted three and D. Hope got two for the Rovers who had only the three to score goals compared to ten last week against Yarroweyah

Rovers Reserves won their game by 38 points after kicking 8.7 – 55 to Blighty’s 2.5 – 17, The Rovers kept Blighty goalless in the first half of the match to set up a 23 point lead before giving four goals to two in the second half to seal the win and remain undefeated.

Rovers Under 17’s scored 22.13 – 145 in a thumping win over Blighty who scored 1.3 – 9, the team kicked 5 goals in the first quarter, seven in the second and five each in the third and fourth quarters making it a solid four quarter effort.

Rovers Under 14’s played a great game to defeat Blighty 6.3 – 39 to 0.1 – 1, the team kept Blighty scoreless for the first three quarters of the match whilst kicking two goals in both the first and second quarters before kicking one each in the third and fourth quarters.

Thoughts

When the Rovers won games today, they won quite nicely and when they lost it was with some pain on the scoreboard at the Netball Courts and Football field but there is no doubting that regardless of the results, all of the Rovers teams will all be pushing for improvement as improvement is the natural course for all teams in all sports as they seek to find the edge the opposition does not have.

Go Rovers!

Rovers Talk 7/4/16

The Rovers Football and Netball teams are looking to build on their Round 1 successes by defeating Blighty on their home turf this Saturday.

Blighty’s A Grade Netball team defeated Mathoura last week in Mathoura and hope that they can stay undefeated by defeating the Rovers on home soil, the Rovers after defeating Yarroweyah are hoping to show they can remain undefeated as well as showing they can win on the road as well as at home.

The Rovers and Blighty had a memorable clash last season where Blighty established an 8 goal lead before the Rovers stormed back to win by the narrowest of margins, it is hoped that this game will not present the same challenge and be a smoother path to victory.

B Grade, C Grade, C Grade Reserves, Under 17’s and Under 13’s all hope to continue their unbeaten run as well whilst the Under 15’s will be aiming to get points on the board after their ten goal loss to Yarroweyah last week.

In Football, the Rovers Seniors are top of the ladder and aim to keep ahead of Blighty by defeating them when the two sides clash on Saturday.

Blighty defeated Mathoura last week and will look to defeating the Rovers to stay undefeated this season whilst the Rovers aim to do the exact same thing at Blighty’s expense.

The Rovers Seniors had ten players scoring at least a goal with three kicking multiple goals in their win against Yarroweyah and the Rovers no doubt hope for a similar result against Blighty.

Blighty had seven goal kickers in their match against Mathoura with five kicking multiple goals but may be hampered by the fact they had less avenues of scoring than the Rovers.

The Rovers Football teams are on top of the ladder in the Seniors, Reserves and Under 17’s and sit third in the Under 14’s.

DNS will report on all the results in the next edition of Rovers Talk.

Go Rovers!

Rovers Talk 3/4/16

A, B and C grade all scored 54, 53 and 55 against Yarroweyah whilst the C Grade Reserves scored the highest with 62.

The U/15’s lost their match 35 to 25 and are no doubt disappointed at the result but the side will bounce back like all good teams do and aim to win the next game and as many games as possible all season long.

This coming weekend will see the Rovers hit the road and take on Blighty, Blighty’s A Grade side defeated Mathoura 54 to 28 setting up a clash between two undefeated teams which promises to be a good game to watch.

On the Football side, The new scoreboard got a solid workout with the Rovers Seniors defeated Yarroweyah 14.13 – 97 to 7.5 – 47.

Yarroweyah was down by just 13 points at half time after outscoring the Rovers in the second quarter by a point before a 5.6 to 0.1 third quarter by the Rovers put the game firmly in Rovers hands.

The Rovers Reserves easily defeated Yarroweyah by 85 points with the scores at the end of the match reading 14.9 – 93 to 1.2 – 8.

After the matches the Rovers had their fortnightly members draws and it was also the night of the Deni Dero Shuffle where there were people dressed as Deros/Bogans and people hoping their purchased song was the last played to win $600.
